The latest 1.31 version of Visual Hub can encode DVD's (ripped via MTR) to h.264 and AC3 5.1 into an the .mov container for ATV. The problem is that tagging software MetaX doesn't work with this container. Is there a similar alternative that will?

Contact the creator of MetaX here rodney@kerstetter.net and ask for .mov to be supported. I've already e-mail him he replied saying if there is demand for it he will add it!

Keep asking, the more we ask the sooner it will happen.

    I emailed, he replied.

"Your voices have been heard! I have officially added .mov tagging support to MetaX's to-do list. While I cannot guarantee exactly when it will be completed, I don't think it will be too long. Keep your eye out, and thanks for the great suggestion. Take care."

    That deserves a donation.

I am still holding out hope that VH or Handbrake will figure out how to package AAC stereo and AC3 into the MP4 container, which is probably the better way to go. I think the Handbrake team are getting close. I'll hold off encoding more DVD's for a week or two to see how things shake out...

Yeah I would rather Visual Hub added MP4, but either way I'm happy.

I wish we could have an all in one solution. Something that will do the conversion of video and do the tagging all at once. I think Metax and VH as well as Metax and HB should team up and make it happen! Lets start writing letters guys!

The Handbrake people are doing it now. Hopefully the release will be soon. They also are adding iPod anamorphic support. They are telling people to wait to re-encode everything until this version comes out. It sounds awesome.

    .mov tagging added to MetaX

It's still limited to some issues but it's a big improvement..

It would be nice though if VH just supported mp4 then there would be no issue.

iTunes Drive-In is better than MetaX and tags multiple formats. IMO.

    Check it out.

Just tried iTunes Drive-In... Sorry but that is the worst tagger I have ever used, doesn't let you customize anything. Did didn't tag anything, no rating, no artwork, no description. It just sent my video to iTunes...

I'll stick with what I know, MetaX is the the ultimate tagger.

No artwork? No descriptions? Of course it supports artwork and descriptions and it's smarter than MetaX in getting them. It also doesn't zero my movie files the way MetaX does (I've lost several movies to that program). And iTunes Drive-Inn grabs accurate and appropriately-sized descriptions that don't require editing, unlike MetaX which grabs novel-sized reviews and descriptions that contain pointless trivia written by half-illiterate Amazon reviewers.

iTunes Drive-In is still early in development and it has room for features and improvement. But at least is doesn't effin' delete my movies. And MetaX has too many fields. I use iTunes Drive-In because it's easier, faster, and more accurate for me than MetaX.

While I do appreciate the better descriptions from IMDB. I don't really like the how it doesn't tag RATING, Director, Producer, or Cast. Also something is off with the setup of the program. MetaX seems to flow a bit better, everything is on the one screen.

Send a request for a rating option to the developer and any other suggestions for improvements.

It's free (Donationware). If you like it and want to encourage more development, you can make a "donation" but you're not obligated.

In the release for MetaX they said it was still in trial, so why would you go and use it on all your movies. I still stand behind MetaX they continue to grow and update. While the iTunes Drive-in looks interested, I just didn't like it. It lakes features that I'm used to with MetaX. Now if there was a Hybrid between the two taking features from each and creating a ultimate tagger, that would be cool

iTunes Drive-In is dead. Long live VideoDrive.

New name, new version, new bug fixes, and a new website. I guess the developer is re-branding.

I just wanted to chime in here and let everyone know that MetaX will *not* damage your .mov file. It makes a new track for the cover art, which can be easily removed using QuickTime. Your original video and audio tracks are unchanged. Don't forget to read those update boxes before updating ! :)
