Mine is around 3000 songs, most of which came from my 200+ CD collection. Most of them are in 192 or 256k format, but I have been thinking about re-ripping the collection. I bought a few MP3 albums from Amazon. I never bought anything from iTunes because of the DRM, but I guess that will be changing now. I haven't been buying much music because I am turning into a grumpy old man who doesn't like most new music. Oddly enough, my podcasts take up more room on my 30GB 5th gen than my music collection.

Everything either Lossless, MP3-320 or AAC-256.
Seriously how do people get 400GB worth of Music.. and how do they even remember or enjoy their collections.

To be honest, I'm not sure how I built up so much music. I'm only sixteen, and only really got into music properly two or three years ago. Before that, I was kinda wandering with the crowd with the music they liked. Now, I like whatever I like, dislike whatever I don't, and have deleted all that old music, so I reckon I'm doing alright :)

To be fair, a lot of those artists are from compilations...

P.S... I'm currently downloading more White Stripes and the Rolling Stones discography too...

As of right this second, I have 5555 songs, which is 16.3 days or 22.15GB's worth. All songs are 128kbps AAC, except for around 35 songs that I bought from iTunes Plus. Most songs are from torrents and Limewire (Yes, I know. I have no money. I feel horrible about it, and I would MUCH rather have the actual CDs), but about 400 of them are from iTunes (collected since 2004).

However, in addition to my iPhone, someone gave me an 80GB iPod video and I've been cleaning up songs I don't like (via both looking at full albums and deleting tracks I don't like and putting my library on shuffle and if a song comes up I don't like, I delete it) so I can use shuffle on it without going through 100 songs before I find one I like.

I had like 6200 songs before I started this process, I believe. ~27GB.

After spending a long long time updating my library (several painful hours) from my old computer, I have an updated image. 8907 songs, over 25 days, 50GB of Music.

Not sure how many CDs I have...can't be bothered to count. Between those that are ripped to my computer, plus anything I've bought electronically, I've got about 7300 songs on here, 600+ albums.

I did a little cleanup of my library before replying in here. I had some CD projects I was working on in iTunes in AIFF format, taking up a lot of space. There are now no AIFF or MPEG audio files. Only AAC, Purchased AAC, Protected AAC, PDFs (digital booklets) and a few MPEG videos (music videos from iTunes).

2425 Songs (14.32 GB) but it is only the good stuff I like - my PC has closer to 5000 songs but I hand selected what to put on my MBP.

Oh and I have 50 GB of movies/tv shows

I like to go through every once in a while and delete out songs which I don't listen to. I have 734 songs, 1.9 days and 3.19 GB. It used to be around 1,500 but I deleted it all.

My Music colletion

Hi all,

my name is Paolo and I am part of a band called 'Tutto Matto' that did quite ok in the early 2000's...
I am now 43 years old and I have collected more than 40.000 vinyls since I was 14; since I had a Mac I have started passing my collection on a digital format, I bought a lot of records and on 10 October 2010 I hold 280.000 Songs on My Itunes which are spread over 5 terabytes, namely: two western Digital 2tb each and a WD 1tb;
A part of these are 24bit format 44.1; and all the records are passed on to digital trough a graham leslie pre amp.
Another large part is still in mp3 but I am changing all of them and eventually all the songs will be 24 bit, 44.1.
I need another couple of years to reach quote 500.000 as I that is the time needed to convert the remained of my vinyl collection.

I use a MAc Pro 2 X 2.8 GHZ quad Core Intel Xeon where my Itunes is installed.

I am sure there are people with larger libraries (I know of a collector who hold nearly 600.000 songs, but the one mentioned in this forum is quite modest if considered under collector's standards.

I, of course do not mean to be arrogant, just to share this big passion and love for knowledge of music with the all of you: love and peace, Paolo:)
