How can I view cablebox on ASD via Mac Studio M2 Pro

Blackmagic video capture devices support up to 16 channels of audio. Most all other capture cards only support stereo. When hooked up to a AVR, the mac can easily support 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 as well as Dolby Atomos 5.2.1 from the Blackmagic device. If you need 4k/60 support, the Black Magic Quad HDMI (around 400 - it supports up to 4 HDMI inputs) can handle it without an issue, although you'll need an PCIe enclosure that supports an x8 connection. For 1080p/60 support, a thunderbolt based black magic device can also do the trick (around 120.00)

@Msbeezy — considering hdmi grabber, you had to know that hdmi signal is encrypted and for example Blackmagic device could not let you record any encrypted input. You can foul this around by using a cheap Chinese hdmi splitter between your Cable box and grabber. But, (1) you should check first if given splitter will do such a trick of not-encrypting its output and (2) you didn’t hear this advice from me. Or, use grabber with RCA or any analogue input.

FWIW... Coupled with an Apple TV, this is the only way to get Netflix, Amazon video, etc . on a mac with surround sound.

Any recommendation for a good 4k grabber ?...i see most are sold as USB3.0 out,...no USB C (TB4) ? (not needed/better? )
@Msbeezy: I am in the fond of Blackmagic Design Recorder 3G, which is Thunderbolt 3 grabber, 2K output. And — as well as you may be content with 1080 resolution — a lot of second-hand previous iterations can be found on the cheap, equipped with Thunderbolt 2 (which you can plug into current gen port, obviously). I’d say Blackmagic ‘cause it comes with their own software made for pros, so one can count on it’s quality.

I see no mention of 4k/8k resolution etc...am I missing something or is this not necessary/provided
I didn’t notice that you‘re mentioning 4k (BD UltraStudio 3G is a 2k device), so, sorry - I had no experience in the field of 4k grabbing.
