How come Apple hasn't sold SSD's yet? or charge for an "upgrade"

The 1TB drive is 4 lanes.

Price is besides the point, since the argument was they couldn't be purchased afterwards.

I am not buying some hardware that isn't directly from a known manufactur

Do Toshiba offer an upgrade service? Do Acer, or Samsung? Does ANY laptop maker offer an upgrade service? No. You buy a product specced as you want and can pay for, and that's it.

Do they sell their laptops with proprietary SSD's ? No you don't. Most don't solider on the SSD's either though I believe a few have.

Don't be obtuse. A few other makers solder the memory to the board (it's a moot point when the chipset only allows for 16GB anyway), but no one but Apple uses a proprietary drive. Everyone else uses standard M.2 drives that you can find anywhere. They are just as fast, just as small, but Apple didn't use them.
