I'm not sure how they work. But my guess is the the other iPhones have an antenna integrated onto the main logic board and along with the other traces they look like nothing special.

Cell phone antennas are usually pretty obvious (see pic from a previous iPhone teardown below). They're usually a componentless circuit board with antenna sections printed on it.

what about the top seem? that is not symmetrical, that is asymmetrical. if you're gonna put 1 seem in for symmetry then why not do it all over?

Where would you put the fourth one? No room on the bottom (speaker, 30 pin, mic) and you couldn't put it opposite the top one because of the sleep/wake button. Remember only two of the three seems are absolutely critical. They placed the symmetry where they could.

Which makes me ask the question... if there were no antenna's... How was this "lost phone" being used by the "loser"... Can we say controlled leak?? :D I think they wanted everyone to get used to the new look before launch... I mean, we were all still surprised at the keynote right? Apple knew EXACTLY what they were doing... leaking the final version didn't leak too much at all...

A red herring, if you ask me!

Right. I guess the local police department decided to play along with Apple's little marketing scheme.

There is no "conspiracy." Apple lost a prototype device. There are prototype devices all over eBay. Leaks happen to every company. You really ARE giving Apple too much credit- it's a brand, with buildings, and employees who occasionally f-up. Case closed? Good.

Two seams are critical- one is for symmetry. The top doesn't have a pairing symmetrical seam because it isn't as important as the side seams. The top is hardly symmetrical to begin with, considering the headphone port and sleep/wake button. The seam doesn't detract from any nonexistent symmetry that you claim was there to begin with. The necessary seam on the bottom of the phone, however, is isolated from other components, and as such, it would be disconcerting to have only one seam there, when the asymmetry is so obvious.

The sides aren't symetrical either as one side has a mute and volume buttons and the other has nothing.
