I was your age when I started saving up. I bought bulk amounts of Pepsi cans and Mars Bars, then sold them at 200-250% of the price I bought them for to other people in my year at school. To put it in a simpler way, each Mars Bar cost me 20p, and I sold each one for 50p, whilst buying the cans for around 18-20p and also selling them for 50p each. I was making £60 a week profit, and selling around 100 mars bars and 90 cans per week. It was a pretty amazing time of my school career, and as a result, I was able to afford my Macbook.

Parents and student loan.
And if I get the job I'm training for now I'll be lecturer and able to get discounts on future Apple purchases in the future, great success!

A couple of years ago, my entire department at work (IT in a hospital) was outsourced, and most of us were transferred to the new company. As a byproduct of the transition, I got all my unused vacation hours paid out by the hospital. It was enough to buy the iMac in my sig and an external drive for Time Machine.

Otherwise, I would probably still be waiting to buy a Mac. :D

I'm still saving, but I was awarded a patent last year (actually, it's still pending), but my company hands out awards for that. I just received the cash part of the award a month and a half ago.

After taxes, etc. it turned into $720 (US). By itself, nearly half-way to the 13" MBP I want.

Not drinking for 6 months, amazing how much money you can save!

A friend of mine gave up alcohol and cigarettes and saved a few thousand pounds a year, but he bought a HP laptop (+TV, dSLR) with the money he saved. I think the frustration got to him because he's now back smoking and drinking. ;)

I'd rather keep drinking and find other ways to pay for it. I love my beer. :)

Since I make $80/hour, I simply found the money lying around in my couch. :)

Oh wait, I work for the government and don't make any money. Err, my first one was purchased on a credit card before I saw the error of my ways and got rid of them. The second was purchased by pulling a bit of money out of savings. It was too good a deal to pass up.

College sucks doesn't it. I'm not even in yet and this is where I am.:( Oh well, the idea is that this will all pay off in the long run.

College degrees won't. Colleges are like Techs here. Like M(anukau)IT and AUT. They masquerade as degrees that will get you somewhere and you just end up working road works above lolly pop man or a Mechanic.

If you want a real Career get a BE or BSc from a real University. Oh wait, Universities are ridiculously expensive in America.

I get money from the Government and Don't need to pay it back, i just use that. :D (Studylink Allowance)

Get a job. Just work for a week and make sure you have enough to pay rent and VWALAH!

in the US, college = university for all inetents and purposes

Exactly, sometimes the terms have to do with student body size but not often. Terminology isn't important here, you spend just as much at either place and good educations aren't exclusive to one or the other. You're thinking of a Technical College where people learn to cut hair or run for public office. ;)

Amen. Up until a month or so back, I was going out 2 nights a week. Living in an expensive area (NOVA) and going to higher end bars was not a good combination. In college, it wasn't so much a problem, because of the fact, beers and mixed drinks were a dollar, here they're 6-8 bucks. Add in my tolerance, I was spending about 100-120 a night. So, I look at is as making 200 dollars a weekend by not drinking. So, OP, don't start drinking or smoking and you'll be fine.
