Wow, these are some awesome stories. I do have a few different ideas about what I am going to do. Keep em coming, this is a good read!

There is one extreme of selling all of my windows machines (I have about 13) and going straight to mac, but I don't think I would be able to do that. I might try running both at the same time, or dual booting leopard and windows on my windows machine all of the legalities aside.

In addition to my post above, I still have a PC as well, for the record. I use it for my trading paltform actually, as that is something which is WIndows-only and is an application which I need to run real-time and dedicated (timing is everything!)

I have yet to pick up any virtualization software for my new Mac but this thread has helped me in my eventual decision. Even then, having my PC around is still handy, especially since I can run my trading platform on it while I have other things running on my Mac at the same time. Perhaps it's more of a dual display thing than a dual computer thing, but regardless it's a great setup.

methinks thou 'art' onto something, 'scallywag'! As an artist, i use pencils here, pens and paints there and the computer/camera everywhere. Why, on 'god's green earth do we have this tendency to limit ourselves? Each medium has it's own limits and one should not allow oneself to be limited by other's limitations.
There is wisdom in your question... Fanboys, take heed... God speed, Crash-n-Burn...

Couldn't agree more.

There's really no need to "switch". Life isn't a black and white, either/or affair. If you need to use Windows, use it. If you need to use OS X, use it. Don't let your personal identity become tangled up with which inanimate object you sit down to in the morning. Life's far too short for that kind of stuff. Computers are tools, not signs (or flaws) of character, not fashion accessories, and definitely not things you have to switch "into" or "out of". You are not a PC. I am not a Mac. We're people. Leave that other wankery to the fanboys.

Exactly. Why switch entirely when you can have the best of both worlds (funds permitted, of course)? I'm sure my eventual (2008) new Mac will peacefully coexist with the HP business notebook I'm typing this reply on. Thought it wouldn't hurt to have a dedicated XP machine around the house just in case. Can't wait to finally decide on which new Mac though.

I have a Dell notebook that I use for stand-by purposes, its connects to our corporate network, with a HSPDA network card if needed. For all other Windows use I have installed VMware Fusion and run Windows XP into that. I could use Bootcamp but haven't gotten around that to go that way. Lazy bum
