How different/incompatible are El Cap vs Sierra USB Drivers?

Super vague question here, but I don't have much choice...

How likely are El Cap drivers to work with Sierra?

I have a MIDI pedal that has an editor to set it up via USB. Support is shady at best, and so there's no great plethora of users to ask if they've tried it yet. My MacBook has been slow and I'm gonna do a complete reinstall from fresh, but have been waiting for Sierra to come out. So I want to install it ASAP, but since that's a very important bit of software for me I'd like a good "guess" as to if it's highly likely, likely, not very likely, improbable, or it's completely random as to whether it works.

I think with El Cap it originally had a problem because of security and where it was installed, which on previous version could be got around with some developer boot key thing, but they fixed that for El Cap. So anything new like that? It's some kinda USB (and I'm guessing to some kinda serial) driver if that changes things.

My creative Soundblaster X7 stopped working, and although there are little details, it is apparent the Audio MIDI Setup app and the USB audio subsystem has been changed, as the DJ community has been having great difficulty with Sound and some controllers. I would not recommend migrating your system until you have verified on another install (boot from external test disk) your pedal will work. Another sign of USB underhood changes is that Razer Synapse has stopped working, inducing Kernel Panics in the GM release.

PM me if you want details.

That's good to know. Not to thread jack, but do you think this is why I am seeing kernel panics on com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBXHCI(1.1) whenever I have my Nuforce uDAC 3 connected? This only began after upgrading to the Sierra GM. I also can't find any references to this specific 1.1 version of the kext existing before Sierra. I'd be interested in whatever sources or more info you have on the possible changes.

I upgraded to the 10.12.1 beta and seem to be having an easier time using my uDAC now. I will post if and when it crashes, but I've tested playing music for 5+ hours now and it's been steady. I confirmed the AppleUSBAudio.kext is the same as in 10.12.0, so this hasn't changed. Who knows. It's probably not really fixed. :p
