As the user stated above Windows 7 -> Mac OSX is much easier than Windows 7 ->8. 8 is absolutely dreadful. Macs are amazing machines. If you have trouble or need a specific application you can always install Windows through bootcamp or Parallels 7/VMWare. :)

//Posting on a Mac w/W7.

Most of the time I don't even notice I am using W8 vs W7. I really don't understand the hate.

A significant difference to get used to is windows management in OS X. The green button is absolutely useless and minimizing windows with the yellow button is also pretty useless once you get used to Expose/Mission Control. A big thing with Windows is seeing/launching items on the desktop or in general using the Start Menu. in OS X you barely see or care about those things because of the Dock in OS X.

Set up Mission Control as a hot corner, and download something like Better Snap Tool or Moom as previously suggested, makes the use of OS X a lot less irritating as a former Windows user.

BTW the use of gestures with a Magic Trackpad/Magic Mouse in OS X is a million times better than any Windows implementation, it's one of the reasons you'll be glad you switched.

Looking to replace our Dell XPS, which has been pretty good overall except for a few new keyboards.

We're considering a 15" Mac Book Pro with Retina, but we are concerned about the learning curve to switch from a windows based PC to a Mac Book.

All insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Someone posted this link in another thread. It helps to learn how to do the Windows things in OSX. I found it pretty informative...

There are a few differences, like how to install programs, but it's pretty similar to windows in more ways than not. Also, 99% of the time you'll be using a program instead of tinkering with the OS. Programs are pretty much identical across each OS.

The biggest change for me was hitting cmd+c to copy instead of cntrl+c to copy. This can actually be changed to the windows way in system preferences, if you prefer.

The beauty of OSX is really its simplicity. Many professionals use Macs because it frees them from constantly having to maintain/worry about the operating system whilst allowing them to focus solely on production.

I have always used Windows (I think about 14 years) and got three days ago my first Mac. And I have to agree it's really easy, most things are different from Windows, but I think it is far more logical this way.

I also agree that the step from Windows 7 to 8 is more difficult that from Windows to OS X. Before I got my Mac I used Windows 8 for a month, and I still had to think and search how things worked and had to be done, something I don't have after two days OS X usage :cool:.

I'm adept at both. Some things I like better in Windows some things I like better in OSX. Both do the job. I'm more interested in the hardware running the OS.
