How do I get movies onto iPad?

Try handbrake. Best one out there.

I no longer agree. See my post, #24 I believe. I must say though that converting a full movie takes over 3 hours.

Press 'convert' in the app instead of 'watch with live conversion'. On the computer the original file is stored on an mp4 file will be created in the same folder. You can then sync this to your iPad for offline use.
