I agree aelalfy, your new homesceeen looks great, like how you went without the 5 day forecast, I sometimes take that out and post another set of icons/folders up there myself - got so sick of the plain grid look.

This setup is going to look even better when HTC Plug-in for Lockinfo is updated for Retina display. I made my weather icons small size in settings because of their fuzziness when large due to not being updated for retina.

Also, I'm reading up on how to get rid of some of the black borders. Today I'm using the Suave HD theme and it seems to get rid of the shadows in some cases, like on multitask bar. However, like alot of others I prefer to not use Winterboard if possible, and rather SSH my own icons in...so if I figure it out I'll report back.

Please definitely report back on your progress in regards to that border. I can't seem to commit myself to winterboard as I hate themes and what people do to their phones using ugly themes. That's my opinion and that doesn't mean that someone can't use winterboard and make something good of using themes. I do find winterboard slowing down my iPhone a little and not sure about battery. Also that shadow icon bug and having to activate white icons to "fix" it as not worth it.

I read around in some forums and apparently the HTC plug-in dev is working on updating for Retina so I think we'll get it soon (hopefully).

Up until recently, I found lock info to be very buggy but thanks to your implementation and screenshots, I gave it a try and found myself successful at achieving what I want in my homescreen. I REALLY hope they update the HTC plugin to retina quality and fix some bugs that I have noticed with it. Keep me updated on that as well, hehe.

Oh and thanks for the appreciation but really I can't take credit for this, just a compilation of other people's work really and I've seen people on these boards with similar setups - but I'm glad if I helped someone in steps to recreate their own version.

No problems, you have been very helpful to me and others and wwe have all enjoyed this thread and of course learned from it. Also I'm crediting you for the look of your homescreen and how you implemented the different tweaks to achieve it. I just like to get the facts straight so everyone knows who did what and when.

:)

Thanks
AE

You know, I got to thinking a bit ago about all of this and I'm wondering if supervelous or aelalfy or anyone else can answer this...

Is there a guide out there somewhere that will spell out where certain things are in the hierarchy? For instance, where the SMS "bubbles" are:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ChatKit.framework/

and Balloon_1.png is outgoing
Balloon_2.png is incoming

I've noticed that in nearly every thread where someone posts something they've changed through ssh, the next poster is someone asking where to go to change it. I'm just thinking if there's some sort of guide out there, it would make things easier. :D

Hi,

I don't recall any specific guide for all directories, usually you will find guides for very specific things that are highly demanded, on the Internet.

With the intorduction of ios4 a lot of directories changed when comparing it to 3.x. Any guide that existed back then would need a significant revamp to bring it up to that.

I think what you are suggesting is a good idea and could be even made into an app if someone really wanted. I think a good solution would be a google spreadsheet posted online so selected people can edit it.

It would be similar to that spreadsheet that online on google that shows ios4 compatible apps. Instead it would be a 2 column spreadsheet with one column being title and the other being directory.

This would allow everyone or selected people to edit it and would enable something like it to exist. I don't think someone on their own would want to put a guide on this, it would be tedious and time consuming. But I see a spreadsheet with several contributors very effective.

If you get a spreadsheet started, I will contribute what I have done in terms of icon changes and what not and what directory they are located in. I'm sure others will think your idea is a good idea, especially for those new to jailbreaking and such.

Thanks
AE

Thanks AE. Yeah, I know what you're saying about specific directions for specific operations. With Google, I guess it is possible to find just about anything...lol.

I'm not sure I've got the level of knowledge to pull something like this off (thus, why I figured I'd ask), but maybe someone who knows these things inside and out will see this and think it's a good idea.

Having that knowledge-base in one place would be great, especially for someone like me. I know something like, for example, changing the color of the text bubbles wouldn't even have occurred to me until I saw it in a thread here. But if there were some sort of Google spreadsheet or the like that listed the different tweaks and where to find the specific files that need to be edited, I think it would encourage people who are on the fence about trying it to give it a go. It's amazing the changes and personalizing you can do to these devices and I'm all for making it simpler for anyone who wants to try it.

Anyone with that knowledge want to take this task upon themselves? :D

Thanks!

Hi

I can create the spreadsheet for you if that's what you mean. I wqouldnt mind at all, I can create it tomorrow and give you a link.

Once it's up and running and some meaningful directories have been added by me you and some others, we can go public and tweet it and get it out there by other means.

Thanks
AE

That sounds great, aelalfy. Just shoot me a PM and hopefully we can get this idea off the ground. I really think once some of the more savvy members get in on it, it's something that could take off and be very helpful.

nice. very nice. Looking forward to the spreadsheet :)

Great home screen by the way and something which I'll attempt later on tonight :D
BTW, having problems installing Gridlock on my 3GS. I keep getting the error 'this package is either paid or requires a paid package to work' ... ??? What am I missing???

You are not missing anything, cydia does that sometimes and especially with all what's going on with rock acquisition, I wouldn't be surprised. I had this happen before, you can email the cydia developer saurik or something and he can help you or wait and try again later and it should resolve itself.

Thanks

So, since the black border was bothering me, I decided to try a day using the full Suave HD theme thru Winterboard - I like how it gets rid of the black border problem for most apps, and also as you can see perfect on the multitask tray. I also really like that background on the multitask tray if anyone knows how to change via SSH.

I really gotta figure out the black edge problem because I love the Suave theme! The spreadsheet idea is great and would really make some amateurs such as myself more adept at making desired changes to our phone!

I also love the Suave HD theme SMS baloon styles...anyone know where I can get some images for those in alternate colors?

Ive been having a play about with this theme and come up with the following on my 3GS:

Mobile%20Photo%2014%20Sep%202010%2022%2048%2039.jpg

However, I can't seem to add my own background on the home screen? I added the Suave theme using Winterboard.

Thanks

TO ALL: Please PM your emails, so I can add it to the spreadsheet and email you the link to the spreadsheet.

Thanks,

Are the transparent folders shown above part of Suave ?

Thank you for any help.

I got that look by getting the "Clear 4.0 folders" theme for Winterboard on Cydia. It gives you a few different options (clear like the picture you quoted, clear with a border, etc). I've got mine set up clear with a border. It's really nice because you can see more of the wallpaper.

ive managed to get this all installed one slight problem if anyone could help me pls

the border of the htc plugin seems to overlap my row of icons above the dock so i cant select any of it... is there a way to make the htc plugin border smaller?

So I just need to know one more thing, got everything else running.
What is the repository for Make It Mine so that I can change the clock? (i tried one but it doesn't exist).

OK here it goes - I'll do my best to explain and if I'm not clear on anything let me know and I'll try to elaborate as best I can.

You can download the Suave HD icons and theme at the following link:

http://suavehd.xengi.org/

I believe they even have instructions on how to install. Now you can download the whole theme and SSH it into your themes folder on your phone, and it should then show up in Winterboard. Or you can download the icons individually. The theme would be easier if you don't mind using Winterboard.

Once you download the icons (.png files), if you didn't want to use Winterboard for the whole theme, you would dump them in /var/stash/Applications then pick the program you want to replace the icon. In the folder there should be a file called icon@2x.png - this is the stock icon. What I usually do is I rename the stock icon so I can use it later if I want - don't delete or at least not without backing up. I name is something like icon@2x_default.png. Then drop the new icon in there and name it icon@2x.png and respring and it should be changed. There may be an easier way to do this but this is how I do it, no expert.

In Lockinfo settings, enable Homescreen, set Page Indicator to On (homescreen graphic instead of dot), Existing First Page to On, and also make sure Transparency bar at bottom is all the way to the left. Also need the HTC Lockinfo plug-in and enable it for the Homescreen in Lockinfo, Settings, Plug-ins. The weather should default to the first weather location setup in the Apple native weather app.

Download Gridlock from Cydia, and that will allow you to place your icons wherever you want them, so they don't default to the top. Also, in this screenshot I am using Five Icon dock and Five column Springboard, both from Cydia as well.

Fake Carrier from Cydia will allow you to set your AT&T and time in the status bar to whatever you want. The white apple symbol is from Glyphboard, it is an Iphone web app and should install on your phone if you go to the following url:

http://mrgan.com/gb/

THen you copy and paste any of the symbols in there - so you can set the apple symbol to replace time using Fake Carrier or as a folder name.

The only other thing I'm not sure I can help you on is the dock...I don't remember where I got it, I believe from the CLassica theme, and SSH it into my phone. I'll try to figure out and reply again.

Someone already posted the wallpaper in case you want to use too. Let me know if any questions.
Thanks for the guide. Do you have a problem with icons moving away from the homescreen everytime you do something like installing an app, changing a setting, restarting your phone...?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4 32GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Anyone care to share the SMS bubbles from the Suave HD theme? I love them.
