Hey all,

so would eatproxy work? I want to do a similar thing. PBS allows people to view their shows, as long as they are within the US, I am not in the US, is there a way to use a proxy so it thinks I'm in the US and the proxy relays it to me?

Edit: I did a preliminary test andit looks like it just may work! - thanks...

Hiding IP address

Hello everyone, can anyone tell me if there is a free program that would allow me to hide my IP address? Thanks

I have moved to the Middle East on assignment from the US. I cannot get on Skype for cheap calls home nor can I visit some other websites. How do I hide my ip address?

I'm no MySpace expert but don't you have to be logged into your account to be able to view a profile. That is how he knows it's you because MySpace tracks what users access each profile. That's the only explanation as there would be no other way for him to know it's you if your on a public computer. Maybe he could see what country an IP is coming from using one of those IP Tracker website if MySpace does log IP addresses and assume it's you since you said that your both in different countries. That's the only explanation I can think of.

I read this whole thread and wrote a replay, then saw it was from January. Stupid me.

Thanks Jivaka. Look into the proxy info on the previous page for the help you need.

The Tor service should still work for you. However, if you need something a little more secure, and have a friend or relative that can run the software for you, then consider psiphon. Both are anonymizing proxies -- Tor is net-based, while psiphon is software-based. Otherwise the underlying principles of their operation are very similar.

I am not stalking anyone! you can't judge a situation you do not know anything about. Mine was just a "technical" question. in any case why can't we have some privacy while we surf the net?
You don't understand how it works, or what you're asking. It's like saying "I want to walk somewhere without using my feet...." Or better, "I want someone to mail a letter to my house but I don't want them to know my street address." You can use an anonymising proxy, but that's like putting on a costume every time you leave your house (*cough* Michael Jackson) It's not a reasonable way to go through life.

sounds like she doesn't want to show the country she's from via any means including tracing the ip nor mac address.

use tor in combination with a program called "changemac 1.5" or "macdaddyx"

both will allow you to change your computers wireless mac address, then use a cafe or something.

Hide IP Address

I am currently working in the Middle East and I am unable to use VOip and some websites such as Facebook and Myspace and similar websites which are blocked by the service provider as these are censored. How do I overcome this?

There are lots of Proxy servers you can use. Just google "web proxy". There are so many and they all pretty much do the same thing. I just wouldn't log into any site using one considering the nature of the proxy.

The way proxies work is that you tell the proxy server what site you want to access. The server asks the site for you so the target site sends the information to the proxy server instead. This only exposes the IP of the proxy server. The proxy then sends you the information. So this keeps you hidden. The down side is that any authentication or credentials you are using are being fed through the proxy server! If the server is less than trustworthy they could be intercepting anything you do. If you're not even logging into myspace and just viewing a profile, there's not really anything they can do with that info, so you'd be good.

not exactly illegal

So would the web proxies work with streaming media? Specifically, I'm wanting to subscribe to a streaming sports service but the team that i want to watch is blacked out because of my location. If I use a web proxy will I be able to get around the blackout limitations and watch those matches?

It seems ridiculous that if I'm willing to shell out over $100 for this service I should be able to watch whatever team I want.

Flash, and possibly other media plugins, leak your ip address even if you are using a proxy or tor. To guarantee anonymity, disable your plugins or use an extension to provide control over the plugins. The only truly effective way to have anonymity is to use a public network and spoof your MAC address.

Proxies sometimes work with media streaming services but many streaming services block access through tor exit nodes and popular proxy servers.

I have the same problem except i wanted to hide my personal identity when i move out of the country to where i was originated. The website i'm normally on is more of a chat site a Chatango room to be precise because i keep hearing rumors that Chatango members, anons, mods, and admins can track down your IP address. I still want to keep my identity safe but not remove myself from a chat site. I use google chrome as my browser, system is OSX leopard, shell is Macbook Pro 13", And any IP program would be free or torrent because i have no control over my bank card not even my credit card.

A paid VPN is afaik really the only way to go for streaming video.
Tor is just too slow. It is okay for facebook, news sites but not video.
Life public proxies are hard to find and some fast enough for streaming video is even harder to find. They would be overrun in a minute.

I think it is so awesome that comedy central doesn't block IP regions. They don't loose anything but retain all the fans that don't currently are in the US.
For Sports and TV/Movie programs it is always licensing that is in the way. They really should fix that because it is annoying in a more and more globalized world. I don't want to watch US TV series in German but there is no way to get English without waiting 1 year and buying the DVDs/BDs.

So, what VPN is the best to use, I am living in Turkey and want to watch the footy on sopcast (the prem) and I am having a problem with being blocked so what is the best way to go about sorting it out? thanks.:apple:
