2.9Ghz..
Asus P5GD1 mainboard
1GB of ram..

harddrive and other stuff recycled, using onboard ram..

It was so cheap, something like $290..

Have you tried installing Windows XP?

Hillarous.

1. I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this but yank out all of the ram except for one card that has the least amount of on board memory.

2.Boot to your bios(I think to do this you hold down the F8 or F12 key or something) and turn down your processor speed.

3.Install anti-virus software like norton and mcaffee and then turn on every auto-protect feature, reinstall every trace of software you have and turn on the load at start-up and add icons to my desktop options, so it gives you the added effect of having the screen muddled up.

4. Turn off or down all of your cookie security and internet security options, remove all of your "spyware removers", type in free stuff on google and then go into all of the sites that load up, install every trace of desktop tool bars like googles, ebays, and any other site.

geez those are just off the top of my head, i think if you did all of that you could bury even a brand new dual processor P4 no problem at all. In actuality though like the quoted poster was hinting at i assume, just attempt to be a normal consumer and use it on everyday tasks without keeping a sharp eye on spyware and the auto-settings of these programs and your computer should grind to a halt in about 1 to 2 weeks time.

My friend's Toshiba laptop fan died recently, sending it into complete and utter destruction. Because the fan died it now tells him that the computer has been scaled back because the cooling system is failing, and then it runs windows XP at roughly the equivalent of a PII 300 mhz and 16 mb of memory. Break the fan? :p

Actually, in seriousness, the best move would be to say that you are looking to be able to run some new CAD software (educational!) and need a new computer to be able to do it. If you show that you're willing to take responsibility for it, say, that you're willing to work for it by saving money/doing odd jobs, your parents will be much more inclined to get a new computer, as opposed to if your old one just doesn't work well enough. :)

Aw, give him a break! If it is an oppurtunity to destroy a Windows machine, let him do it! Somehow a nanovirus needs to enter the Collective!

1. Open it up
2. Remove heatsink/fan
3. Boot it up.
4. Replace heatsink/fan
5. Enjoy your new PC in about 1-2 days.

If you don't want to eff up your PC, but want to make it seem slow... Slow down your internet connection, so when she's checking her email, it'll take forever. That way you don't lose anything...

Why not GET A JOB? I would be pist if I knew my son was doing this. I hope this is all a joke. Did you pay for your eMac and Shuffle? Destroying your family's computer on purpose is just dumb. Good luck.

I used to have this little app that could limit the network speed of other computers in the network (tons of fun! :p). I bet it could do the same for the computer it's running on. IIRC, it was a driver, so it didn't show up in the task manager.

There is a program, I know this is late, that will allow you to change the speed of your computer so you can slow it down for DOS games and that. It was on TechTV when it was TechTV. Google "CPU speed change XP"
