To bad it doesnt apply to High School students. However, when I bought my iBook in the AppleStore, the guy could clearly see that I was in Junior High but he still gave me the discount which was nice.

it does work for high school students, just show your student ID card

Are you sure about this? Doesn't it only say that college students are able to get the discount? I'm planning on buying a macbook soon and if I can qualify for $100 off and a free iPod Touch, that would sure be nice. :D

I bet they'd give it to you with your grade school ID...why not? I bet Apple would be stoked that they have you interested (and purchasing) so young! They are the kind of company that is interested in creating LONG TIME customers. If you're buying stuff from them in high school, think of how much stuff you'll be buying from them when you actually have some money!

lol Apple's gonna take the discount away if people try to abuse it? They're being nice and actually subsidizing students? Haha come on guys, lets be serious now. One, the student discount attracts a good enough load of customers that they'll never take it away. The most they'll do is make it stricter to qualify, so why will that trouble you "honest" people? Second, please, they're not subsidizing students, they're just charging less of a premium. Hell given their current retained earnings, they probably don't even care about this free riding issue. So if you're smart enough to not get caught, then whatever haha - of course not saying it's the right thing to do. I'm a student btw.

They have always asked me to show a student ID or an acceptance letter. I find it disgusting that people would abuse the system, I would hate for Apple to cancel their student discount because of dishonest individuals.

They do check quite frequently with lists from universities. Thats why you must specify the name of the school.

There are actualy 2 levels of EDU discount, the standard one that you can access through the Education store and that is subject to random checks, and an HE discount that is linked to each Uni and HE college in the UK (and I think other countries) which offers even better discounts but can only be accessed via a computer linked to the Uni's network.

There is a level above that for official Uni purchases too, but it's password protected and requires a purchase order etc.

Apple do a good job looking after students, it's a very good market for them.

I echo the comments about not abusing the system, but I assure you that Apple are aware of the status of most of their education sales, they simply choose to be stricter on the higher discounts.

I have seen them cancel orders that are found to be bogus.

Where's the Discount for Highschool students on the online store...

I didn't see one so I thought I was ineligable...

im in college and i usually get like $100 bucks off(the macbook) or like 10% off.

yea go into an apple store and show them your high school student id and they will be totally cool. thats what i did all through high school.

Uh, NO. I want to buy Macs that are not overpriced. If no one says they ARE overpriced, why should Apple do anything about it?

Believe it or not, you paying all that money for your Mac speaks a bit louder than a forum post that will never get read...

ive just graduated, but i think im gonna try and still get student discount when they eventually update the macbooks!

Whats the worst that can happen? they find me out and i pay full price

The worst that could happen is that an irate executive, frustrated with all of the dishonesty, decides to press charges against you for fraud.

That's probably not going to happen, but you should still feel bad about the act to begin with.

Please DON'T abuse the system!

Those of us who actually ARE students (like me) do not want Apple canceling the student discount because fake people abuse it! Macs are expensive and overpriced enough! I can't afford paying even more on my next Mac.

Agreed. I'm not a student but when I thought it would be cool to get student pricing I simply bought from MacMall, which offered $100 dollar rebate on my iMac, which essentially gave me the student price. :)

The current edu discount is laughable, anyway. Apple used to have real student discounts, on the order of 33%. Also, as mentioned to me by a number of Store managers around the US, they're generally pretty willing to use the student discount--or any others available--to make a sale if that "little bit extra" will either close a deal or allow an upsell. As in, "Are you in school? Planning to go to school? Ever gone to school? Know anyone in school?"

You should see this list of allowable discount programs Apple has. Far larger than you imagine, and other than the employee discount, none of them very exciting, nor much of a challenge to "qualify" for. Bottom line, it's not really a discount that you get, just less of a profit premium charged.

Hmm I don't know about the State-side stores but here in the UK we have three online stores:

Online Store - regular purchases.
Online Store for Further Education (high school) ~8% discount, school name required and my head of year asked me what this boring confirmation note was about so I guess she got told about the purchase.
Online Store for Higher Education (university) ~15% discount, and you have to be on a university server to even access this store. You then enter your student ID number but I don't know if this gets checked any further than a database check.

When i ordered my macbook (this is UK BTW) i rang that special further education number, and he asked for my student ID number, that was about it

You can get the student discounts at Best Buy? My nearest Best Buy is half the distance to the nearest Apple store. Does that include the IPod Touch rebate too? (And how is that handled, do they just give you a rebate coupon to send in?)

I'm needing a laptop for this Fall semester and am debating between a MacBook and something like a Dell. The free Touch is a big incentive right now.

I'm not sure if every Best Buy offers the discount. It's better to call before you go. And they didn't offer the iPod discount, but I already have one so the 10% off was a better deal.

Thank you! Agree.
