I don't know how to manage and back up my pictures, I can't use the "send to the my photostream" option or because I like having my old pictures on my phone too, and then I end up having duplicates on my mac because the phone sends to my library the new pictures I take with the camera and the old ones I had, ios 8 apparently is not able to detect that I already have those pictures on my library / and icloud i's nice but I like having my pics on my hard drive plus 5 gb of storage is a joke, what do you guys do to manage your pictures?

Since you're using a Mac, use the built in Image Capture tool. You can set it up so it uses a folder to import to. Then next time you plug in your phone and open the tool, it'll have a checkmark next the photos that you already imported. Easy.

My workflow also includes backing up my entire photo library to a Synology NAS and Crashplan. Can never be too careful with valuable memories

- Upload to Dropbox
- Copy to Macbook HD
- Copy to external HD I keep in a safe
- Copy to external HD I keep near the Macbook.
- Delete from Dropbox
- Delete from Camera Roll

This, also, for me, more or less. Upload to Dropbox, delete from Camera Roll, copy from Dropbox to separate folder on my MBA (in case of any problem with Dropbox). My favourite photos I then sync back onto the iPhone. Plus regular MBA disk backups to external HDD.

It's unwieldy, but basically means I have:

- all photos on the MBA and on an external HDD
- favourite photos in Dropbox and synced back to iPhone

I use Amazon Cloud Drive Photos. As a Prime subscriber you get unlimited photo storage. Better value than paying for iCloud storage space.

So now that we know the Photos app for Mac is coming, what are your plans?

I currently sync with iPhoto on my Mac and delete photos from my iPhone once a year. In iPhoto they're semi-organized into events and albums. Those only go back as far as 2011 though. I have photos I took with my Canon point & shoot as well as scanned photos going back several years organized into folders in the Pictures folder in Finder.

So do I transition to Photos and keep my current system of syncing via USB and not worry about iCloud Photo Library? Do I upload my current iPhoto library to IPL and leave the older photos where they are in Finder (where they rarely get looked at, honestly). Or do I add all of my photos no matter where they originated from into Photos, sync to IPL, and pay for the iCloud storage I need (probably 20gb to start; anything more and it's not cost effective for me yet)?

I use iPhoto and photo stream but I turned off autosave/auto import from photostream into iPhoto and just save/import the ones I want as they appear in iPhotos photostream panel. Then I can delete them from moments on iPhone and they disappear from photo stream on mac.

I don't use the new photo stream whats its called the beta one. Im waiting for it to come out of beta and photos on mac to become available.
