Right front pocket, screen facing leg, sleep/wake is pointing towards ground. This provides for the most ergonomic motion when pulling the phone out to use it. My thumb is already on the home button as I pull it out.

Left front pocket, screen facing inwards, power button down. On anything I wear, this pocket is dedicated 100% to the iPhone, I never put anything else in the pocket to avoid accidents.

Front right pocket, power button down typically. I'm a girl and wouldn't dream of putting it in my purse.

Until this poll I never really realized people put it in their pocket any other way! for me its left pocket, facing away, power button up.

Left front pocket, screen towards me with the power button down. I can reach in and grab it and start using right away!

Fron left pocket. I don't make a conscious effort about which way the screen or button are facing but considering I place the iPhone in that pocket with my left hand it's natural for the button to be up and screen to be facing out. However if I have a wired headset on it'll wind up in the pocket button down, screen out.

When driving (and when it's chilly out) the phone gets tucked in the inside pocket of my jacket with its orientation again depending on the usage of a wired headset -- screen facing either direction but always with the button down (i.e. headset up). ;)

Great poll!

Front left pocket, screen facing my leg, lock button pointing towards the ground, all inside of a case for me.

I use the same method. In over two years carrying iPhones with Oleophobic coating & no screen protector I haven't had a single scratch or blemish.

The coating provides such a nice tactile feel. I'll risk a scratch any day, in order to enjoy it as it was designed to be used. Apples done a fine job.

I keep my phone in my front left pocket, screen towards my leg and sleep/wake button up. I'm right handed but for some reason, I have always had my phone in my left pocket. And keys and change in the right front pocket.

This exactly!!

Oops, I voted wrong.

I have a belt holster, Otterbox Commuter, and keep the screen facing towards me.

Front left pocket, screen facing in, sleep/wake button on top with headphones almost always plugged in. That pocket is dedicated for only the iPhone to avoid unnecessary scratches. I've done it this way since the original iPhone and no scratches due to pocket accidents on any of them.

Front left pocket because of the metal stud on most jeans on the right pocket.
Screen Facing my body
Power button down (I can hear it better)

No Case

Interesting question...Back left pocket, right side up (i'm listening to music 99% of the time when I'm out), doesn't matter which way the screen faces.

Purse. Myfave purse has outside pockets on the ends so it is easily taken in and out. I freak out if it's not there. Facing out because there is this piece of metal I don't want scratching the phone.

Any other purse I use the "cellphone" pocket.

When without purse it's in my back pocket. Speakers up and faced in.

I tried power button down all day today to see how I like it...and I love it! The phone feels much more natural when you pull it out and put it in your pocket that way.

Interesting topic only because I never even think about most of this, although plenty of people clearly do.

Either pocket, I just put it in. No case, they ruin the feel of the phone.

I almost always carry my iPhone in my front left pocket, with the screen facing my leg, and the power button down.
