It makes a lot of sense as users don't really need to micromanage their technology as much anymore.
Well, that affirmation pretty much reaffirms mine: Apple is pushing the Mac to behave the same as iOS, so that users have less control (ie: "micromanage less" in your words). Regarding your comment about this being standard across the industry, I disagree. First, because UNIX-like OSs are precisely about the user having total control over the computer. Second, because long-time Apple users like me chose Apple for offering a different approach from the rest of brands. If Apple had jumped in the bandwagon of the trends from other makers, many of us weren't be using Apple products.

I find it quite interesting to see how this change of paradigm (your control vs the market controlling you) is the #1 goal of most tech brands right now, starting with Apple: In everything, from the "you drive your car" vs "you shouldn't drive your car because an online service should do it", to the topic of this thread "you clean your MacBook as you wish" vs "if you clean your MacBook, do it like if it's an iPad".

I have complete zero interest in computers that don't allow me to be in control. That's in fact the reason why I switched from Windows to Mac quite a few years ago. And the it's the same reason that will make me switch away from Apple in the near future.
