How do I cope with a scratch on a phone...?! It's a gadget, not a seriously ill loved one...

I try and look after my phones but marks and scratches happen sometimes. Life goes on.

Modern phones aren't as bad as the old shiny-metal backed iPods. Looked gorgeous out of the box and covered with fingerprints seconds later...

Full ceremony. I put "In the Arms of an Angel" by Sarah McLachlan on repeat and then light candles. I laugh, I cry, I think about all the good times I had before I scratched it. Sometimes I even "pour one out" just for good measure.

Or...I see the scratch and say "oh that sucks" and then I keep on keepin' on.

Guess.

(... life continues ...) "Hmmm! Is that a scratch or something on the surface?" (rub-rub-rub) "Yep, it's a scratch. Oh, well!" (... life continues ...)
Aaaaa when i’ll stop caring :(

Are you being serious? It’s just a scratch.. if you need to ‘cope’ over it, then you need to evaluate what’s important in your life...

On the screen would bother me perhaps but on the body not so much. It’s just a tool to me.

It's a phone, consumable, not a shiny trophy in a glass vitrine.
Agreed.

But I suspect some people don't see it like that.
Somehow iPhones have become highly prized, cosseted object to be admired constantly and fussed over.
To me that is just bizarre behaviour.

EDIT:
After reading through this, I think we are being trolled by the OP.

remember that this is your 4th iPhone and you'll be replacing it with a new one in 2-3 years and will fuss about that one just as much.

How do I cope? What is this, a medical condition? My brand new XR already has some hairline scratches between the screen protector and the case in the corner, the one place it can scratch, and it pisses me off, but maybe they were already there when I got it and couldn’t see them when I got it because I only got the phone like a week and a half ago. Am I going to exchange it? Hell no, everything else is great - back glass, the battery, the camera is flawless. I’ll use it for a year, then maybe I’ll just take it in and get a $29 front glass replacement. No problem. The cool part about it is if the new front glass has issues (dirt under screen, scratches, non-uniform, etc.) I can go back and say hey look, got a brand new front glass replacement, and it has problems. They’ll fix it complementary, it’s happened before with a 6S I used to have.

Ah true cause it’s so expensive

Mine has numerous small scratches but they’re only visible under stark light AND when i’m specifically looking for them. I don’t worry about it.

How many scratches does your TV remote control have on it that you’ve never noticed?

I think you care like the first week, then you just say to heck with it and move on. Someone told me a long time ago, think of it as building character.

With that mindset, you actually see your device as unique, and don't mind the normal wear and tear as much.

Aaaand I just got my first notable scratch today...

When I think of all the money I wasted in the past on Apple Care, I simply refuse to play that game any more.

In addition to my admonition above, I'll now view those savings as going towards my next new iPhone.

Ex. $199 Apple Care for Xs + $99 for a full replacement... I'll gladly save that for iPhone XIIs

NOT PLAYING THIS GAME ANYMORE!!!

I am glad I am not like this. I have several friends who obsess over their car and wax it weekly only to have it crashed into while parked.:(
I was hat guy. That’s why I got a beater. Free yourself!

Ya probably lol I’m like seriously I’m reading this?

Step 1: Put on your big boy pants
Step 2: dry your tears
Step 3: move on with your life
Step 4: drown your sorrows at Taco Bell, it always works

I just view it as it is going to happen. I usually put mine in a sturdy case as I drop my phone a lot. Micro scratches are just the price of phone ownership.
