Since I was little I have used licorice root extract on my canker sores. Seems to shorten the duration by 1-2 days on average. I got mine at our local health food store in a little jar with rubber dropper inside.

I've had a horrible canker sore for about a week now which just started healing last night.

From the time I noticed it last week until yesterday, I tried almost anything I could think of, read about or be suggested on it with no luck whatsoever.

Does anyone have any tip or family remedies they suggest if it were to come back?

Lemon Juice, Ketchup, Hydrochloric Acid, Mix it up, and rub it on.

You know what's worse? Cold sores. I've been getting them on the right side of my mouth since I was a little kid, and they f***ing hurt like hell. The burning, stinging pain is just...a bitch.

About 3 years ago, I felt the same burning sensation ABOVE MY LEFT EYE. I look, and sure enough, big cluster of red bumps. Feels like a stabbing blade. I was also freaked because it was so close to my eye...I'd heard stories of people going blind from getting them on their retina.

So I hauled ass to the doctor. I basically told her right when she walked in, "I have this huge-ass cold sore by my eye, I'd like to not go blind, so antiviral meds and Tylenol 3 please!" :D She checked it out and sure enough, "Yep, definitely a cold sore." I left with the prescriptions and was quite happy after that. Took 2 Tylenol 3 every day and chased it with Mountain Dew. :D

With me I use Orajel, or something I thought was common, I guess not. My parents always put butter on it, it tastes gross (for people who don't like the taste like myself) but it works, maybe they only do it in Africa?

Eww Herpes. :p

I figured out that milk was causing them. I did not eat/drink anything with any amount of milk from any animal in it for 2 years and now I do not get them and i did not get them in the 2 years without milk.

An elderly person told me about this and it works great.

Get some denture adhesive and put it directly on the canker sore. It forms a coating over the sore and keeps it self-contained until it heals.
