That what *you* think the poster was asking. Please don't confuse the two.

Or your comprehension is terrible, which is doubly evident with his clarifying post.

For the record, I was asking about generally having tattoos, not necessarily visible ones. Could be I misunderstood, or missed a post where this was covered.
Nope. You were extremely clear. You originally asked for any tattoos, he went on about visible tattoos, completely missing your point. I would not be surprised if doctors or lawyers do have non-visible tattoos. Tattoos are a form of body art, and I sincerely doubt all medical professionals or attorneys are stuffy.

Apologies: Based on comments, to clarify, these for the most part are not example of the bad or ugly tattoos I was referencing, see post 7 for that. However, most I would not choose to wear. :)

I seem to be exposed to ugly tattoos every day, it’s kind of like the necklaces for men thread (not critiquing that thread :p), but in this case for most intents and purposes these are permanent adornments.

First off, in most cases they don’t make you alluring, if you are dumpy, the tattoo just serves to exaggerate your dumpiness. You have to be considered attractive to start with, for a tattoo to be positive, and even then it can backfire on you with poor choices. ;)

Secondly what kind of tastes do people have? Mostly bad. Some of least sppealing are ankle tattoos. The worst examples are cheap tattoos and/or a mishmash of unrelated images and styles all shoved together in an incoherent mess. There are some attractive tattoos, but most turn me off. All images from online search. I like clean coherent designs such as:

But would never choose this for myself, not even when I was young and buff. :) The images below are quality, but don’t appeal to me, and they don’t generally fall in the realm of ugly, which I reserve for cheap, poorly designed icons.

So what are your tattoo preferences and/or examples? What you got? However, if you upload a personal tattoo, brace yourself for critique, so be warned. :)

Hopefully this is not a repeat thread, but I searched and could not find one, even though I seem to remember talking about tattoos here.

Sleeve, too much for me, to dark, too negative.

Clean- yes.
Design a bit intense, and location, I have to think about it. :)

Aside from the hygiene issue, I've got little issues with people getting tattoos. The only exception would be facial tattoos. No matter how well done, no matter how awesome looking, a facial tattoos is just...nah, man... just no.
Agree. I wouldn't want any but otherwise I don't mind them withing reason other than too much on the face or offensive ones that aren't hidden.

I am going to be expanding my present tattoo to have it go from my right elbow up to my shoulder and be getting a brand new tattoo on my left bicep. The expansion I already have a pretty good idea for so that's not a problem. It's the new tattoo I am having troubles thinking of ideas for. Just so nobody feels like they are going to post something that's going to go on my body and never come off, don't worry. I have to draw or create it in another art form before I am willing to put it on my body. I have to have a personal connection to it and have it mean something to me. Now it has to follow a certain form and style. It has to be Asian culture, mainly Chinese Astology and/or Taoism. If anybody has any thoughts or ideas, please post them. I just need something to get the ideas going. Another thing, I am not fully against color but in my tattoos I like gray scales so keep that in mind. I don't mind dark reds and blues and things like that though. It should be calming, passionate, strong, deep, emotional, and powerful.

So, after being kinda of the weird one out when I used to do tattoo work, and not having one. I'm finally comfortable with my body, and got my first tattoo.

I got the Rune of Destined Death (top of my right hand), as a celebration of my upcoming birthday. I'll show it off, once it's healed.

(the design in question)

Getting some "Ink" in prison is a major pastime. Could be for various reasons, but more for affiliations and status. Since the tools and ink are not easily available, inmates are very creative in making their own, which why prison tats are always black, and not always sterile.

When my #1 son moved into a rental house in Orange County CA, he found a box left behind in the garage that had a video tape of a woman that was a Guinness record holder for the most tattoos. She had an extreme condition that she couldn't tolerate sun light, so she got tattoos from head to toe to block the sunlight. We saw her one day out walking with a big floppy hat and long raincoat on.

I didn’t read this entire thread, but I‘m not a tattoo person, but I do have one wrap around tattoo on my left arm, kind of tribal with a rose. It has initials above the rose and a date below. This represents a very painful loss in my wife and my lives. It is the only time I wanted to get a tattoo. It is right above the sleeve line of where my tee shirt ends. It is for me to see, not other people. I look at it and it helps me deal with the loss.

To me, a tattoo is for these type of things, but everyone is entitled to do with their body whatever they want. I appreciate the beauty of tattoos on other people.

I don't like tattoos either. Tattoos should be for religious purposes, and only that.

I also am not a tattoo person, but my wife has three. These were for personal reasons and each one means something to her. That's private, so I will leave it at that.

For me though, I was there when she got the first one and I saw the intense pain in her eyes at points. I've never been in to anything that would have me voluntarily accepting the infliction of a great amount of pain - so any thoughts of tattos I gave up at that time.

I have earrings, eight to each ear and that's a momentary shock that's been spread out over time since I was 19 (I'm 52 now). I'll stick with that.

Additionally, I have Psoriasis (since I was 5). So, I'm not paying to have something done only to see it obliterated by a Psoriasis patch. And, by the Koebner effect this would happen.

Not a fan of tattoos or piercings. Never considered having any. Never will. Mrs AFB has pierced ears (just regular small studs) but no tattoos.
I think they are a lot more common than they used to be.
Apart from not liking the way they look, or the pain aspect I’m also not sure what I feel that committed to.
Just think about what you are into right now? Will you still feel the same in 30, 40 or 50 years time.
I don’t need to have my wife’s or daughters name tattooed anywhere. I won’t forget their names, and I think there are better ways to show your commitment to someone.

Got these done earlier this summer. Wrist is the symbol for mindfulness. It acts as a reminder for me to stay in the moment and to not think about what happened yesterday or what could happen tomorrow.

Shoulder is a Zen Buddhist Enso ring with the middle portion of the Jedi Order logo. Text around it says "I am one with the force. The force is with me".

I also have an asian dragon on my right shoulder that I got as an 18th birthday gift to myself. My wife has no less than 10 tattoos of all varying designs.

I do not have any, but my innate appreciation of personal expression supersedes subjective constraints ;)

Nevertheless, I can definitely say that I am not physically attracted to anyone who is inked....

Tattoos are fine if done right unless you do them on your neck and face, it’s too much at that point I think 🤔

When one gets old the tattoos get all out of shape and faded on the old leather skin, including my leathered neck. Something like a new pair of Levy's versus an old and ragged one :)

I have three tattoos, the oldest is 22 years old and the newest one is 2 years old. Each one took a couple of years of thought and months to develop the design and find an appropriate artist. Each one is very special me and I have no regrets about any of them.

Also, tattoos can be touched up... So, if one is worried about them not looking as good (fading) in the future, if you have a good artist, they can look new again.
