I think the absolute worst thing about trade-in values is that increased storage size does not increase the phone’s value. So then why do we have to pay so much extra for it?

they hawk the NAND/board and resell it on their refurbished market at the NAND premium there as well. Rinse, repeat.

$650 was how much a new iPhone use to cost and it has slowly went up every year. Boiling frog strategy.

$650 starting prices go back to 2010 with the much smaller, less capable 16GB iPhone 4. Adjusting for inflation, however, $650 is around $940 today. New iPhone 16s can be had for as little as $829 today and that's with eight times the storage.

In 1994 I bought a PC cd writer for over $400 and by 2010 they cost Iess than $30. Technology with competition gets cheaper over time.

I sent mine off to itsworthmore.com last week and already got back $770 for my base 15 pro max in "very good" condition.
I’m trading my wife’s 13PM. Apple offered $400. it’sworthmore offered $377 in “Flawless” condition with original box and charging cable. Was surprised, thought that website would come in higher, honestly.

Ok but we're not necessarily comparing identical technology. The iPhone 16 is a much larger and more capable/feature rich phone with a lot more storage than the iPhone 4.

Sure, if you want to compare similar tech/phones, the 64GB iPhone SE3 (largely based on the 8) at $429 today is much cheaper than the $699 64GB iPhone 8 in 2017.

What Apple was referring to during Monday’s event are its partner wireless service providers’ offers (which Apple does help facilitate through the Apple Store app and retail store locations).

And, as of today (Tuesday) I saw “The new iPhone 16 Pro on us” deal being advertised in Verizon’s app.

Trade in an iPhone and in exchange Verizon customers receive (36) monthly bill credits equal to the $1,000 cost of a new 128GG iPhone 16 Pro.

So there it is, my friend.

But then again, righteous indignation is fun. So, if you wanna be all about that life - you go ahead. You do you, babe.
