Hey should all be Pro. 12", 10", 8".

Now that Apple has admitted Microsoft was right it's time to adopt these features and Apple seems to be doing just that to halt the decline, with the exception of the Mini which is understandable given that it is now the most popular iPad of all.

Name aside, I would have bought the !2.9" Pro over the 9.7" Pro were they both available at the same time. The size is partly what attracted me to the iPP as a laptop-replacement (speed, RAM, battery life and Pencil being the others).

The split screen feature on the 12.9" iPad Pro gives me essentially two near-real-size 9.7" iPads side-by-side. That alone is a killer feature for me.
Yep, that's a pretty compelling argument. I've used split window on my Samsung GTab 8.4 Pro and found it useful, but on the Air 2's 9.7" screen it is even better. I can see how the iPP's 12.9" screen would be terrific for that. Should Apple update iOS to provide optional mouse/trackpad support, I'll definitely pick up an 12.9" iPP. Absent that, I'll most likely buy a 9.7" iPP if one is produced.

Not at all. MacBook Pro comes in 2 sizes. No confusion there.
Some people are easily confused.

Don't be surprised if we see that the 9.7 will be called iPad Pro, the 12.9 called iPad Pro+ after the event this month.

I'm interested, but also impatient. The delay of it's release is annoying since I already sold my Air 2. I'm tempted to go buy another as the prices seem to be dropping, but I really want to see what this new iPad brings to the table.

I am concerned that they will mess up the pricing and the memory configurations. 32GB and 128GB is not very logical. Personally, I would like 64GB to be the minimum.

Although I may never buy the keyboard or stylus, it's nice to know that they will be available...maybe.

Didn't know this was a common thread. Remember that they changed the MacBook branding in 08.

you mean they changed the name of an existing object, without any upgrades or hardware changes too? they just changed the name and thats all? continued selling the same object where 1 day its one thing and the next its called something else without any change physically to the product itself? wow

If Apple lowers the storage tiers to MEGABYTES, we know they're pinching pennies. :p

I don't know about the pro naming scheme. Honestly, with the Mini being the lightest of the three, the Air moniker is rendered redundant.

...Maybe we could call the Mini the iPad Air from now on, the current Air the iPad Pro, and the current Pro the iPad Pro+?

Apple's naming scheme is confusing enough as it is with the lightest MacBook not being the new Air and the lightest iPad not being the Air either.

It will be three separate lines: iPad Mini, 9.7 inch iPad (no longer branded as "Air") and 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

Yes? You are a curious one.

There is no chance this is going to happen. It would cause consumer confusion. Besides they have already named it the Pro. Maybe when they release a new version of the Pro they might change it but even then I don't think so. I also don't think they will call the new 9.7" model a Pro either as that would also cause confusion. They can introduce some or all of the features of the Pro and still call it an Air 3 or something else.

I think Apple are dealing with adults who should know the difference between a 9.7 iPP and a 12.9 iPP.

I'll take a 9.7, space grey, 128GB, wifi + cellular iPad Pro please. THANKS.

I disagree regards the naming. Maybe people who frequent forums like these can tell the difference but the average consumer will get confused.

Of course there is confusion even with the MacBooks.

What confusion? How can anyone possibly be confused by MacBook Pro 13 inch and 15 inch? Did IQs drop suddenly?

Maybe not between those two, but I can imagine people getting confused between rMB and MBA. "Wait, isn't the lightest notebook the Air? This 13 inch MacBook isn't the retina version? ???"

Not really sure what's pro about a pencil and stereo sound, but meh... Apple marketing

Also, the problem for the iPad is not the hardware but the software. :)

The iPad 2 was the goto device for education/med/business. What will be the "fleet" offering?

I think Air 2 sticks around.

Mouse support will, IMHO, never come to the iPad line as we know it today. Maybe at some point when MacOS and iOS have become one, but definitely not any time soon.

I doubt Apple wants to cannibalize their laptop market. The same goes for a two-in-one touchscreen laptop.

To me - I'll always think of 9.7 as the iPad - not Air, not the Pro; just the right iPad size.

Imo changing the Air 9.7 into Pro feels too marketing dept driven. Then again it fits into the MB Air and MB Pro dvide. What do you think?

I will buy it the second I can get my hands on it. Hope the have it in minimum of 128gb and cellular. It will replaced both of the Air 2 units which I will sell.

The 7.9" should be called "iPad" that's it, just iPad. And it should be identified by the year... Just like macs

The others are iPad mini (identified by year) and iPad pro (also identified by year)

I hope they get on the same update cycle next time around. Even if that means the iPad Pro doesn't see an update until the next iPad. I don't mind that they are bringing the features of the current pro to the air/pro line. For me it isn't compelling to go down because the extra screen real estate makes a big difference to me. I'm curious to see what they'll do for a smaller keyboard. Expanding the pencil across the iPad line can
