I tried the DE for several weeks, though maybe not every single day. I do not doubt that the DE is better if you can get the hang of it, but I could just not get used to it. It is a lot less forgiving than a regular razor because the blade does not pivot to the contours of your face. I think that the choice between DE and regular razor really depends a lot on the person and not a matter of one being absolutely better than the other. Also, for me, it was a matter of the amount of time I want to spend shaving in the morning. The slightly better shave of the DE just did not make up for the extra time I needed to be careful and not cut myself. The creams on the other hand, I think the real stuff is better on all counts than the canned varieties that you find in the drug/grocery store.

So you actually see an improvement from the quality shave cream and the brush? That's good to know- I have my doubts (not about your opinion, but about if it would make a difference or not).

I receive my stuff next week, and am very excited to stop using the electric (Philips-Norelco arctec).

I was in a hurry (woke up a bit late for work) so I decided to just shave with the 'old stuff' (Edge Gel, no brush) this morning. I did my normal three-pass shaving like I would have, but the shave was nowhere near as close. I never knew how dry shave gel actually was, but I could really tell compared to the Proraso stuff I'm now using. Plus, there was no cooling feeling when I rinsed it off. Makes me feel much better about going this route, now that I have a direct comparison.

That makes sense. I'll see what I do- I really don't want it to take longer for me to shave. I thought that switching to the electric was going to save me time, but in fact it takes just as long if not longer. I have to do a lot of clean-up shaving on my neck which takes time. Plus, it's just not a comfortable feel after the shave.

Now I'm really looking forward to getting my brush and creams. If I really like how the shave turns out, I may just stick with the Mach 3 and get a better quality razor handle. Something heavy, maybe like this or this.

Dry shave with a Gillette Fusion...... Not Kidding.

Ben, is that you? :p
I knew a guy in school that would shave dry with a disposable single-bladed razor. I offered to give him shaving cream but he refused! It was hard to watch....

Thanks, that further confirms my choice for going this route. Hurry up UPS!
