I’ve never seen the appeal of AC. A hefty premium with another premium when you claim and all to get a replacement slightly quicker.

Yup. Never needed it. The only product I actually recommended for members who are unsure of A.C., would be the Apple Watch, simply because of the vulnerabilities of moving your wrist and hitting daily objects. But otherwise, Apple products are so well-made in terms of hardware structure, they rarely ever have problems. Plus, I find Apple makes quite a few exceptions outside AppleCare for the customer, where it depends who you talk to and how you address the situation. And to be honest, I can’t think of the last time I actually had a ‘hardware issue‘ with any products over the last five years.

I personally love apple stores. I love the atmosphere. If I ever got back into retail or trained some IT skills towards macs etc I would happily work there.

I'd like to be able to make my return to iOS by buying my new phone in store and able to hold a device first.

My in laws handed over a bag of old tech the other day and one of the items was by old blue 5C I gave them.. brought back memories as that was my first iPhone I'd had the experience of buying in store.

That makes sense. My devices are covered through my bank and home contents insurance policies though so even then I don’t see the point in paying for AC. I’d only claim if I smashed one of them as Apple are pretty good with repairs and replacements for hardware issues up to 2 years here.

You’re right about how you talk to them too, I’ve found them very accommodating. My wife’s Series 2 watch broke last year and was over two years old. She didn’t buy it from Apple but they ran a full diagnostic on it to confirm it was dead. They actually said if she had bought it directly from them they would have replaced it free of charge despite being 27 months old, which I thought was excellent really.

I'm thinking of sending my device for a screen repair since my apple care expires this month, do they restore/reset the device? I know there is a risk of them having too, but when I was sending my mac book pro in for keyboard repair, they said they would have to update my OS (made no sense).

They don't usually update the OS. I mailed in a 2016 MacBook to get a keyboard replacement and it was running High Sierra, and they didn't touch the OS.
Turnaround time was super fast. The whole experience was excellent.
