I am slightly embarrased by having 12 bands but hey ho, I dont drink, smoke, go on holiday and I drive a car I bought from new 10 years ago so £120 on 12 bands ain't too bad, (he says desperately trying to justify his ridiculous obsession!).
My bands are in a drawer on my nightstand, right below the dock and watch when charging. I'm wearing the orange band right now but had the green on last night. Mostly I use red as it matches my silicone iPhone case perfectly. But I know what band i'm going to wear each day without even looking at them.
I'm planning to add the walnut brown band and also the white. Right now I have green, red, orange, and the original black bands.

Don't be embarrassed! Many of us are attempting to emulate your band collection. I know I am! There are a few colors that don't interest me, like "Fog" and "Antique White," but almost every day I see a new color that I simply must have. And THAT is why Apple has over $200 Billion in cash on their balance sheet. 😀

I don't think you need to justify it at all. And if you do, I have fewer straps than you but more to justify in terms of spending (my car's older than yours though). I have five sport straps and the Milanese loop. There is a place for all of them but nonetheless I know I could easily get by with fewer. I hardly ever wear the Milanese loop but wouldn't be without it as it's always my choice if I'm dressing up. I could probably cope with just the black and navy sport straps but the white one came with my watch and there are times when the red is just right. The turquoise has hardly been worn as yet but will come into its own in summer, I think, and I love the colour. Clearly one strap would be fine but if I'm considering how other elements of an outfit work together than changing my watch strap becomes a part of that. I know I've spent too much on watch straps but then I also I spend a fair bit on clothes and shoes and I'm really not fashion conscious.
