What kind of texter are you? Do you type everything short hand to get the quickest messages or do you type complete full sentences with correct spelling and punctuation?

Short hand example: G2G LOL! C U L8ER!
Long hand example: I need to step out for a bit. I'll talk to you later!

I type everything out the long way because I hate text-speak. The full QWERTY keyboard makes that very easy to do, so it's fine. I think the typical iPhone user is like me (in texting), but I wanna see what others think.

I type everything out in full. I prefer it and as you said the QWERTY keyboard makes it a lot easier.

I've always written full sentences when texting, this hasn't changed since getting my iPhone. It wasn't eactly hard to do with T9 and predictive texting and probably took a whole lot less input to get a text out.

I wonder if anyone has changed their habits since getting an iPhone.

THats one of the reasons I bought the iPhone, so I could text long correct text, on my RAZR, I was all G2G TTYL !! Crap, Yup, longways FTW!

I dont do 'u' for you. "@" for at. I spell everything out. I think it's because the phone wants to correct every misspelling that I get tired of 'uncorrecting' the correction, so I just type it out....longhand

I have an iPhone, so I type everything out. I used to abbreviate when I had my old SLVR but with a full qwerty keyboard and predictive text mapping, I am golden. 🙂

A lot of people here are saying that they don't type short hand because of the beauty of having a full QWERTY keyboard, but I know a lot of people type short hand on full size computer or laptops when chatting. What makes the iPhone different than that? Is it because people are more bothered by having to fight with the iPhone's auto-correct to type like that?

I guess it actually would be harder and longer to type in txt-speak on an iPhone.

Well, I use "the basics" when it comes to shorthand. I use LOL, BRB the occasional BBIAF, etc. I don't (or very rarely) use YMMV, IANAL, IDK, etc. That goes for both my typing on a computer or on my iPhone. 🙂

That annoys me to no end... I can understand when people do it on regular cell phones because its faster but it doesn't take that much longer to type out "you" then it does "u" then it just takes you that little bit longer to try to understand what he/she is saying

And people who use @ instead of "at" are not saving any keystrokes.

I text landscape (mine's jailbroken), I also spell out all my words and senetences. I've always had the habit of doing that, especially with my sidekick that had a keyboard, and now with my iphone.

The correct way. I hate laziness.

And I've noticed that people who use acronyms/shortened versions of words eventually begin to sound like they type. Perfect example: words ending with "ing" being shortened by cutting off the "g". Really. One letter.

Yeah, but it looks cooler.

BTW, how would you even type short-hand on the iPhone? You'd spend 90% of your time specifically denied the auto-correct. I get annoyed enough when I'm trying to put a HW assignment in my phone and it always "corrects it" to HE, then I have to go back and fix it.

It technically is possible to type in short hand on the iPhone if you turn auto-correct off.

I Mainly use Proper English, but use lolz and stuff like that, but not whole sentances.

Just the more accepted internet abbreviations.
