You can do it via iCloud:

1. Launch the Settings app from your iPhone. Scroll down to Photos & Camera. Under "Photo Stream," toggle "My Photo Stream" to ON so that all photos taken with your iPhone are synced to your other devices.
2. Do the same with your iPad, if you would like photos taken with your iPad to sync to your iPhone.
3. Make sure iCloud is connected to both devices by going to Settings >> iCloud. If you have the same Apple ID listed for the iCloud account, your photos will start syncing immediately.

Doing this will sync all FUTURE photos taken with your iDevice to your stream, not EXISTING photos, correct?

AirDrop works great if you're just transferring a few pics or videos at a time.

Try "Photo Transfer" app on iPad/iPhone. Just installed it in order to transfer a video captured by iPhone 4S to an iPad. It works great and the interface is quite intuitive and simple. Works over wifi or bluetooth. I found this app by following the link below...

Also tried to transfer multiple photos in one shot between iPad and another iPad..

+1 This is what I use, transfer is simple.

Turn on Bluetooth in both devices, then airdrop selected pictures.

Just FYI - don't think Airdrop was a thing in 2012 (date of the OP)...

If it weren't for that post in 2013, sdilly14 would have an entry in the All Time Greatest Thread Revivals.
