OK, well I think there was a Vista skin when I was using Shapeshifter in Tiger but so far as I know they haven't updated it yet for Leopard. If you're using Tiger try looking here.

shapeshifter offers too few functions for vista mimicking.

you guys are lame. Sure vista has its issues, but not in the GUI department. vista's interface is not bad at all. In fact, I like it.

so how about somebody answers the OP's question instead of getting hysterical at the though of somebody liking windows.

I believe it has been answered... Something about people are working on it but nothing is working... Blah blah blah

And why do people chime in telling us mac users to not defend what is the nicest GUI to date? Honestly, what do you expect on these forums? We use mac OS X because we like the way it looks, works, etc... People may say vista looks nice (yuck) but how much RAM does it take for those looks??? 2GB to run "smoothly"

(smoothly in quotations because I have never had windows run smoothly before... Tried vista for a year, hated it)

But to try and keep this thread on track...
To the people saying they've seen possible themes before that don't work, maybe try and find those links for the OP...

wait, what? why would you feel the need to defend OS X? nobody is attacking OSX  It has nothing to do with vista's performance, no min. RAM requirements. not the smoothness.

GUI...and thats it.

Use this as a screen saver, you'll look just like Vista!!!!

I go with the advantages and the disadvantages of having a Vista theme and a Vista, one thing, when I got used to my Mac, I found it way easier to do homework, while on my Vista, it really sucks, especially those virus's, really annoying, I agree that Vista sucks, but there are some good things you can do with Windows while on the Mac you can't and there is no point of getting Boot Camp or Crossover, takes up more space of my Mac, I would rather run loads of versions of Windows on a Pro...

Understandable. There are some things that I feel Windows does better than OS X also.

But unfortunately, skinning OS X to look like Vista won't bring any more functionality to the operating system. A skin is a skin, just a way to make OS X look different, but in the end it will still function the same.

What exactly are you trying to do on your Mac that you can't on Mac, but can on Windows? Especially as you said homework.

Ditto that. Still means that whatever you "can't" do on your mac, you still won't be able to do because as said above.. a skin is just a visual effect, not added functionality.

Don't even bother, Apple fanboys are too dumb to use logic like this.

1. Install bootcamp
2. Buy 700$ vista ultimate super duper cost you your first born edition
3. install vista
4. enjoy windows vista look on your mac!

seriously, there are people who are working on an aero/vista type theme for mac but none are working AFAIK
Except Vista doesn't cost anywhere near $700. Not even close.

i have both vista ultimate 64BIT on my qaudcore pc and osx on my macbook

they both look good and both have good functionality (personally like OSX better since i switched 3 weeks ago)

as for some user saying vista needs 2GB to run smoothly Vista only uses 500MB idle.. so ive run it smooth on 512MB ram. although i have 4GB now.
Also Leopard can run on 1GB ram but not very well.

Leopard & Vista to Me Both have the Same Problems.

Vista -- can be slow, lot of bugs, lot of security holes and after few hours of usage of say Firefox, wmp your Ram usage has doubled.

Leopard -- Fast but, at times can be slow (mainly app opening),,, lots of bugs, lots of security holes (noticed all the software updates are many security related??) and Leopard is even worse than Vista for Ram usage when i had 1GB in my macbook after 2 hours usage of Safari,Itunes Open i had 6MB ram left!

personally i like OSX better due to its design and speedy response that Vista should get in sp1 although OSX 10.5.2 could be related to Windows Service Pack due to its Size and many Fixes.

It's impossible to do.
You cant get rid of the Toolbar or the dock unless you hide it and there's
certainly not a way to get the task bar to the bottom you can make a windows [shudder] look like a mac in some prospects (look) but i cant see the reason for making a mac look like a piece of 1940 Technology like Windows.
You could try changing your desktop background to a desktop background of vista and hide the dock but it wouldn't actually work, run Boot Camp or Parallels.

Really?... Woah... okay, better not ruin my Mac, maybe I should get Bootcamp after all...

Yesterday I saw a Windows XP theme for shapeshifter, I think it was on interface lift. I haven't seen a vista theme, and shapeshifter still doesn't work with leopard so if you have leopard than that's a problem.

I'll give a thumbs up for FlyAKyteOSX, that is a very good set of programs and theme. I have used that on and off for about two and half years now. I don't use it anymore because I could care less now that I have a real Mac. Plus, my PC has all these spec'ed out components and it has very few programs running... very snappy and fast!

I do have Leopard and I had Shapeshifter on it, didn't work, so I removed it...

The bar doesn't have to be on the bottom to look like windows, it's the most common place, but it is possible to move the bar to the top or the left or the right, so having the mac bar stay at the top wouldn't be an issue, and hiding the dock isn't an issue considering it's doable.
