Like the topic says. My only local (and I mean only one in the state) is located in a Mall. Apple store opens at 10am. Mall opens at 10am. If people camp out outside of the mall the end result would be nuts. i.e. no real way to form a line blah blah blah.

I feel even more like a moron as last night, the Black 16 3G and White 32 3G was available for in-store pre-order. But wasn't 100% sure what I wanted (I want a white one, but never came close to using 16GB on the iPad2 I have now). Needless to say when I woke up this morning and all pre-orders were out I was bummed.

Any advice would be gravy! :)

Apple will open before the rest of the mall most likely

I wouldn't worry about the line being nuts. People will enforce it lol

I did it for the 4 by myself, got there at 10pm and was maybe 30th in line (and in the morning it was NUTS in length. Got cold though and sleeping on a rock wasnt fun .

My suggestion is build a time machine and go back to March 7th and pre-order one. Then you wouldn't have to stand in a line! Lol, but in all seriousness, just call the Apple store and ask them.

Wow are you serious? You slept there overnight ?!

At the iphone 4s launch in oberhausen(germany) it was a chaos. Also because it was located in a mall. I hope they learned from that, and that it will be better organised at launch day.

I tried this last year. Well, not camping, but you have to be at one of the mall doors when they open it for walkers, then you sprint to the apple store. The problem I had was that they don't open all the doors at once, so I would talk to a Security guard on a previous day and ask them which doors are usually opened first.

For the iPhone 4 launch in Britain, one of the mall doors had a sign saying iPhone 4 release here and we all waited quietly and reasonably until the store opened. Then the Apple staff led about 5 people at a time to the Apple store inside the shopping centre. I don't know if it will be as simple in other countries because British people are well known for respecting a queue lol :p

That just sucks. What if youre first in line, and then 50th in line after the mal opened...thats wrong.
If im first in mall and people run over me, il just go to the front calmly and go stand before the first in line. ******* him.

You have to bring pepper spray, and be ruthless.

When the mall doors open you have to anything to get back in the line in front of Apple store!

OR

You could wait at a mall that is organized and gives numbers out keeps the line in order. If they don't do this devise your own organization method. The crowd wants order, nobody wants to lose there place in line, so get a plan together and hand out numbers.

That idea failed in the mall in oberhausen...thats why i hope they learned from their mistake.

I queued for iPad 2 launch, got there about 5 hours before the thing went on sale and there was roughly 600 people in front of me

Apple hasn't announced what time the iPad will go on sale. I think the safe bet is 5pm. If that is the case as long as you are in line around 2-3pm you'll be good. It's always worked for me when the pre-order option wasn't available. If you have multiple Apple stores nearby go to the biggest store as they get more allocation than the smaller or auxiliary stores. Going to any store other than Apple is a huge risk because who knows how much stock, or what models they got. Apple reserves the most units for itself.

If it is a 10am launch most malls do not allow overnight camping. You'll have to check with the mall management of the mall you'll be at, but most don't open to the public until 6 or 7am.

For the iPad at least, employees will walk down the camp out line and ask you which model(s) you want and then give you a ticket that corresponds to that model. Once they run out of tickets it means they have no more stock of that model and you can either pick a different model or leave.

Don't be one of those people camping out. This isn't Springsteen tickets in the 80's before Ticket Master online.

are you sure? someone told me that 5pm isnt the case this time. That apple announced it at the media event that 5pm would be the time.

apple announced the 5pm sale time at their event or not?

No. Apple has not stated what time the iPad will go on sale. Here is the extent to what they have said about the iPad's launch time:

The new iPad will be available in black or white through the Apple Online Store and in Apple Retail stores on Friday, March 16, beginning at $499 (US).

They will announce next week what time stores will open for iPad sales.

Sorry, but you are as confusing as ever. No one knows for certain what time this year The New iPad will go on sale but you can bet that it will more than likely be 5pm like the past 2 years. As for the iPad 2 launch, again it was also 5PM.
