Well... I just referred to my personal experience.
I've owned my rMBP for about a year now, never even nearly dropped it. I handle it like a baby and try to always be aware of it when I carry it. It might get slightly stressful sometimes but I rather keep it that way than risk dropping it.
Get accident/theft insurance. Drop it, get a quote for repair, submit quote, repair, get reimbursed.
The screens on the rMBP's have one less sheet of glass, which is great as it's lighter, less glare, and thinner. But it is not any stronger than you would expect a thin piece of glass housed by a thin piece of very soft metal to be.
