Can I just say that Australia has the slowest and most overpriced connections ever! I'm on 1500/128 currently (for about AU$60/month) but this will get upgraded soon to about 12000/1000 ADSL2 which is a bit exciting. It should see my 175kB/sec ceiling rise a little... :)

Internet speeds really are getting faster. My 3 Mbps/384 Kbps cable connection just tested as

"running 10s outbound test (upload) . . . . . 413.55Kb/s
running 10s inbound test (download) . . . . . . 4.43Mb/s"

through Time Warner's speed test out of Tampa Bay and I am clear on the other end of the state in Saint Augustine. That's while connected through Airport Express and another switch before I connect to the cable modem, I have a feeling it'd be even faster if it were a direct connection to the modem.

We've changed speed since we moved last summer.

Now we have ADSL at 1200 kbps in (will be increased to 1450 this month) and 384 kbps out.

Real life test usually end up quite near that, though I'm a little dissapointed with the result I got when testing just now: 1151/314 :( (maybe it's time for a mail to my ISP...?)

Browser speed

Has anyone tested their connection with different browsers? I tested mozilla, safari, and IE all using the CNET bandwidth meter. Safara received 3300 kbs, Mozilla had 2200 kbs, and IE came in last with 1900 kbs. I tested several times (emptying the cache each time), and got similar results. My roommate with his PC also get about 1800-1900 using IE from the same network connection (LAN port). I'm on a university campus network. ~Josh

First off: WOAH! Thread revival!

Well I'm on 4mbit down, 384k up, currently £50p/m. But Telewest have been great, I've had two free major speed bumps in the last year, and I expect that to keep on going ow that ADSL is getting faster.

Well that is not too bad for such a line ;)

What do you normally get in "real life" downloads
