Just thought I would share my story with you guys.....
Basically I was at work trying to find a nice widget for my Springboard, and I downloaded a HTC winterboard theme. It did not state it was compatible with ios6 or the ip5 in the description, but honestly I have DLed MANY themes tweaks and apps from Cydia that did not state this. However, this time as it was DLing my phone rebooted to the apple logo and I was never able to get past it. Used iFunbox,Google, Macrumors and a whole lot of other stuff but nothing helped. So I restored to 6.1.3 and now Im waiting on a new ip5 I ordered off eBay on 6.1.2 already jailbroken and unlocked.

Guys plz just only DL stuff from Cydia that is stated as being compatible.......PLEASE!!!

well if you are looking for a tweak to remove some *faint* gradient created by iOS that no one cares about then you are looking for trouble.

perhaps he does make sense but this is a poor example of JB "fragility". he might as well try to install android in his iphone and look surprised when it blows up.

That can be said about a lot of the popular tweaks out there. It's a simple tweak he was trying to install, one that normally works without issue. Not quite the same as trying to install another OS. He just got unlucky.

If it helps anyone, that gradient is caused by these images:
System\Library\CoreServices\SpringBoard.app\WallpaperGradientPortraitTop@2x~iphone.png
System\Library\CoreServices\SpringBoard.app\WallpaperGradientPortraitBottom@2x~iphone.png

More likely the Bottom one than the Top, though I have transparent images in place for both. Back up your originals!

And I'm so sorry that you lost your JB, OP. :(

Hopefully devs double test there crap before release on cydia or pushing a update, they are aware of the situation of current jailbreaks and how someone can lost everything they enjoy about the phone :( its no time for opps or god help us jokes.

Why should they when they have alpha and beta testers like some who've posted in this thread?

Losing a jb because of a theme.

I've used this tweak, or one that does the same, on various Jailbreaks on my 4S & the jailbreak on my 5 with no problems. I've heard of plenty of others that use it too.

How is that looking for trouble. I think apps like Springtomize 2 hold more risks then what Wallpaper+ (what i'm using now to remove the gradient) does.

Just checked the download stats of Wallpaper+ and it's had 40,696 downloads...no one cares apparently.

The more jb apps someone installs and the more frequently they install/change them, the greater the risk of problems. That's just common sense, as is the fact that some jb apps represent greater risks than others. People who use SSH, iFile and other file modification tools rise to the top of the risk list, particularly if the person doesn't know what they are doing.

Lol a gradient that no one cares about?

That's just apple proving to us once again that they believe they know how the customer wants to use their device better than even the customer knows.

"Hell, they don't even know what kind of wallpaper they want. Lets go ahead and slap an ugly dark gradient at the bottom. It makes the wallpaper they pick look better. Every iDevice user will thank us."

Trust me, a lot of people hate that gradient. It's annoying and can ruin wallpapers. It's an easy fix and it's really sad that the OP lost the jailbreak because of this. If he would have come here to ask for help, we could have given him a transparent .png and told him where exactly to put it in the file system and which other file to rename. Winterboard could have been avoided all together.

i am with you, i am the same way.

Play while you can with new stuff till the window is closed. When its closed, nothing new unless tested thoroughly by others first.

When ever i introduce someone new to the world of jailbreaking i send them to this forum and let them know not to just instal what ever they want, to do lots of research first!

+1

I messed around in Cydia and downloaded a tweak that sounded really cool. I don't even remember what it was. Resprung, and it went into a boot loop. No matter what I did, it would not at least go into safe mode. Swapped phones to another device, and messed with it in the morning. Ended up having to upgrade the OS, to 6.1.2. I didn't want to, but ended up doing it. The next day, 6.1.3 came out. I got in just under the line I guess.

I am not really downloading any tweaks now. Not until 6.1.3 is available with an untethered jailbreak. I am setting it, and forgetting it.

I wish evasion would work on enabling iphone 5's to restore to 6.1.2 rather than working on a 6.1.3 or a 7.0 jailbreak.

The blobs were supposed to handle that problem but cydia is broken for blobs on A5 devices.

Fix the blob problem then worry about 6.1.3 or 7.0 jailbreak.

You noticed wrong. The jb is NOT buggy.

So you, somebody who doesn't know me, are telling me that my own personal observations, something you have no part in, are wrong?

Thanks. I had no idea you know better than me and my own personal experience. That was enlightening. Please, go tell others.

That's because your personal experience is anecdotal and lacks any sort of detail whatsoever. Also, the JB itself is stable and has proven to be from day 1. If things were "buggy" it was 99.9% likely to be a tweak you installed and nothing more.

Maybe do some research before being condescending next time.

You need to take a logic course. If the jb were 'buggy', millions of people would have had problems. They didn't and they don't. The jb was not, and is not, buggy. In short, you're wrong.

I think a better rephrase to prevent all this argument could've been "I noticed that my device was buggy after jailbreaking so I restored"

Your rephrase is no better since it still points to the jb as being buggy.

The only way the statement "The jb is buggy." can be true is if someone jb their device and installed no apps and their device was buggy.

i personally think it's better as it is more specific to the user. and it is also ambiguous and leaves room to expand since there was no specifying whether tweaks were installed or not.

but the forum is no english class so i think it's better that we drop this conversation. it is getting off topic to what the OP was originally talking about

you are doing it wrong.

there is nothing buggy about the JB in my phone or on the devices of the majority of the 18 million people who downloaded evasion.

proof is in the pudding - just browse this and other jailbreaking related forums.

some extensions can be badly written, but certainly not the JB itself.
