The view account page in settings only works for the cellular brand you bought it for, at least on the ipad 3 or older.

On my verizon ipad 3, view account doesn't show up with either AT&T or T- mobile sims. I can only manage pre-paid Verizon accounts directly from settings.

I have a Verizon ipad air and the account page has worked fine for me with tmobile.

Best bet is to just call 1-800TMOBILE because I spent time at 2 brick-and-mortar stores today and was fed a bunch of crap about having to have a voice line with T-Mobile or having to pay for the device IN FULL to receive the free data (even worse!).

Instead, I called their customer sales line and the representative was so thorough in explaining every single detail in regards to their installment plan for the iPad Air as well as the 200 MB of complementary data.

In the end, all you have to pay is $67.60 (upfront) for the tax of the device as well as the $10 sim starter kit. When you receive the iPad, you will activate your data account on the cellular management tool directly in the settings and you will be eligible to receive the 200 MB of free data for life with the option to add supplementary data as you go.

Initially, you will be "charged" $10 per month for the on-demand service, but once you activate the 200mb complementary data on the iPad (as stated before) that charge will no longer appear on your monthly bill. All you will end up paying is the $26.25 fee plus the regulatory tax for the device every month.

The process was long on the phone, but it was well worth it since every single angle was covered in terms of information. Plus, you do not get charged the $35 activation fee like you would in the brick-and-mortar stores.

The only downside to ordering on the phone is having to wait for the iPad to ship to you, but I feel like this is such a small concession to guarantee the awesome benefits of T-Mobile's new tablet data plan!

I wish I would have done this. When the brick-n-mortar store told me I needed a data plan when financing through them, I walked out. I did however get a Black Friday Air from Target for $379, thanks to the $100 gift card and using my Target charge card for another 5% off. Would have liked the option of 200mb for the times when I don't have wifi.

The lack of View Account for T-Mobile appears to be "normal" on earlier devices.

I'm away from my ipad3 at the moment, but I seem to recall it just shows 4G on T-Mobile. I haven't dug into it but believe it's just a matter of the ipad3/mini1 not supporting T-Mobile's LTE bands.

My iPad 3 does show 4G when connected to T-Mobile. The lack of LTE may be attributed to the T-Mobile 15.5 Carrier - Below I am posting a message from the T-Mobile forum from another user with the same issue

I have an iPad 3rd gen (Retina) with LTE on-board. Previously, I've been able to use this iPad on TMo's LTE network but the recent 7.0.3 software update which included TMo carrier profile 15.5 disables the LTE button in Settings->Cellular Data. The end result is that while I still can connect to the HSPA network for data, LTE is no longer available. Just in case this was some confused iPad thing, I went ahead and reset network settings and rebooted to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea when the carrier profile will be updated so I can use LTE again on TMo's network with this iPad?

My understanding is the new iPads can control any carrier through the view account page.

I just got my SIM I purchased from TMO for $10. I have an AT&T iPad 3 and swapped the SIM out and it shows the TMO network on 4G but whenever I try to go to any website, it doesn't allow me to do so. When I go to the activation site, it tells me the SIM is already activated and can't be managed from my device. I had to use my sister's TMO number to even get that far as it asked for a phone number and didn't like whatever I put in.
I don't have a TMO account as I use AT&T for my phone.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do about this?
Thanks.

Yes, that's exactly where I went. Any time I put my AT&T number or another number that wasn't a TMO one, it would tell me it isn't a TMO number. When I put my sister's TMO number in, it told me the SIM was already activated and can't be managed on the device (iPad).

You shouldn't have to enter a number. It gives you a number when it works correctly.

I used a phone sim and was asked for a phone number. But turned off wifi and it went to the 200mb registration page.

Maybe go get a new sim from t-mobile?

You shouldn't need to put in any number if its not activated yet. Is your SIM card brand new or has it been activated before? Did you buy it online or at a store?

Turn off wifi, turn on cellular data. What does it give you when you goto settings, cellular data, view account? It should give you the setup for the data plan if your SIM is brand new and never activated before.

If you're not seeing that try going to settings, reset, subscriber services. Then restart the iPad and try again and see if that works.

Goodness, I should've followed this thread. Just realized I can't swap nano-sim cards between iPads - mini or Air. Also, I can't reuse the same sim for a replacement Air - need another new sim.

Not sure if this will help anyone but I did a video on how I activated the free 200mb on my iPad 3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O8I9oAMhhY

Great video- thanks! Unfortunately can't get it to work.

I received my T-mobile data SIMs yesterday- one each for my iPad 2 and iPad Mini. Unfortunately the activation screens seem to have changed from when you filmed that video. All attempts to activate lead to http://mim.t-mobile.com and then to a page stating "We're sorry! The Mobile Broadband My T-Mobile site is down" Searching Google reveals this has been going on for months! Yikes.

I'm getting a good 3G T-mobile signal. As directed, Wifi if Off and Cellular Data is on.

Anyone been able to activate one of the free 200 MB BYOD sims lately?

Thanks!

I activated mine last month without issues. At first the activation kept failing so I rebooted my iPad and it worked that time.

Thanks- and yes- I've lost track of how many reboots I've already tried.

Were you activating from with the iOS Settings app- or online via mim.t-mobile.com?

I went into the settings and tried to activate and a notification popped up that directed me to the site. It then activated on the site. Took several minutes though. I was using an iPad Mini. Don't know if that matters.

That's the problem- nothing in Settings that does that on mine. Same problem on my wife's iPad Mini as well. Oh well...enough time spent on T-Mobile.
