I thought my MBP was sluggish after 10.6.6 update, with longer boot up and shut down times. So, I backed up my files and did a clean reinstall, used the 10.6.6 combo update and reinstalled my apps and files and everything is now as smooth as before. As a matter of fact, iPhoto 11 and iMovie 11 seem a little bit snappier (may be my imagination, though).

Slow Internet with 10.6.5 and 10.6.6

Had many of the same problems with Safari essentially freezing/extreme slow loading in both 10.6.5 and 10.6.6. In some cases may be related to DNS problems discussed in the link below. Ran the attached updater to revert to 10.6.4 DNS-related files for my 10.6.6 install and - at least for now - fixed the problem.

Well, the App Store icon on my dock somehow manages to inform me on available updates (with a little red number on the icon) without the App Store actually running. Whether this is a new separate process or has been shoved in as part as an existing one, I have no idea.

I see the icon in the dock but it looks like any other app in that it does not notify me or change with any numbers. I know i would not particularly care for that either. I do like the concept of the app store, though I only executed the app one time to see if it works...and it does open up like it should. Also have an entry named "App Store..." when i click the apple icon and it is right under software update.

Like i said the only update i did not install is Remote Access which i really dont think i have any need for.

So far no negative performance or stability change in my system at all with any of my browsers or programs. Even with 12 programs open simultaneously which i have now.

Total processes is, as far as i can tell, same as before the update.

I'm seeing two things happen:

1) MUCH more free memory displayed in Activity Monitor. Somehow it's being more parsimonious in handing out memory to applications. I can't remember the last time I had well over a third of my memory "free" after several hours of computer use with multiple applications running (including Firefox and Photoshop). Page outs are 0 but page ins are roughly 430mb.

2) Slowdowns in Photoshop that don't seem to be CPU-limited. E.g. when I type in text, there's a major lag before the display updates. This doesn't seem to correspond to anything like maxing out the CPU. No idea whether this is related to the difference in memory allocations.

Same Problem in Lion

I have been able to correct severe internet problems by using the 10.6.5 DNS patch (mdns_repair10-1.6.5.pkg) from this thread in every release from 10.6.6 to 10.6.8. Now I have upgraded to 10.7, and the DNS lag and stalls have reappeared. Has anyone tried applying this patch to 10.7? Any suggestions? Lion is worthless as it stands with intermittent internet connectivity.

I've been having this issue on 10.7.1 for the last couple of weeks. Using that patch fixed it right up! :)

I think it's something on my network bugging out with DNS responses, maybe this old version is more forgiving?
