One thing surprising to me though is that I’m already down to 98% battery health- isn’t 4 months too soon for that when I am a light user? I only need to charge every other day, never letting the charge get below 20% so I am not overusing it.

That does sound a bit weird, but I dunno. Mine is only about 3 months old and the battery health is still at 100% (heavy user of phone and 20W fast charger).

I love it, obviously. It's still a bit too big, but still manageable.

I intentionally only got the 128GB model, expecting / hoping / praying that there will be an iPhone 13 mini. I'm willing to pay to upgrade after a year just to make a small contribution to the sales numbers.

Also I'm hoping for a pure white version next year, not this creamy pink thing they have right now.

Funny, this was just on my mind... I went from an 11 Pro to the 12 mini. At first I loved it. Now that I'm getting out and about a little more - the screen seems too small to me. Battery life is a little challenging now that I'm away from my desk more. I do love how light it is and that I can one hand text. Was also thinking of getting an iPad Mini if a new one comes to fruition. But the reality is that the phone is always with me and the extra screen real estate is missed.

The 12 seems a little big at 6.1". Really liked the 5.8" size - should have skipped the 12 upgrade cycle.

Not sure what I'll do now. Can't see going back to an 11 Pro but also not sure I want to wait 6+ months to see what the 13 brings.
I’ve been tempted to get an iPhone 11 Pro 5.8 after using the 12 Mini for a while. As of now I’m not and I’m finding myself getting used to life with the 12 Mini and it seems over time the battery life is getting better.

Sadly I think we are in for a 3 year cycle with the current iPhones, so the larger screens are here to stay. I might buy the iPhone 12 Mini S though if it comes out in September bc that might be last small phone for a while.

How’s the back for smudges?

Really better than my previous SG XS :)

My Mini experience has been very good, the size moved me off the new phone sidelines I had been on for years.

Battery life has not been an issue for me.

Love my iPhone 12 Mini so far. No complaints at all. I came from a 256GB iPhone X to the 128GB iPhone 12 Mini in Blue. I love pairing it with the brown leather case and the brown leather MagSafe wallet. Great looking combo. I love how pocketable it is. At times it feels like I've forgotten my phone, so I have to check and make sure it's still in my pocket! LOL

As others have said, I only use it for the occasional email, text, phone call, browsing social media real quick, etc. If I'm doing anything major, I'll be using my MacBook Air M1, iPad Pro, or watching videos on an Apple TV.

Dimensions:
11 Pro:
144 x 71.4 x 8.1 mm (5.67 x 2.81 x 0.32 in)
12:
146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm (5.78 x 2.81 x 0.29 in)
12 Mini:
131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm (5.18 x 2.53 x 0.29 in)

Screen:
11 Pro
5.8 inches, 84.4 cm2 (~82.1% screen-to-body ratio)
12
6.1 inches, 90.2 cm2 (~86.0% screen-to-body ratio)
12 Mini
5.4 inches, 71.9 cm2 (~85.1% screen-to-body ratio)

6.1" to 5.8" is literary 5.8 millimetres, mm! Moreover, the 11 Pro is 2.7mm shorter in height than the 12, less thicker borders, less metal on the edges protruding from the screen on all 4 sides ... should equate, perceptually visually smaller on the 11 Pro than the 12.

yes the dimension differences are slightly more significant comparing the 12 mini to the 11 Pro - but not sure what makes you feel the screen is significantly smaller. I'm curious what applications or sites , etc are you viewing that's given you that 'inadequate screen real-estate feeling'

Love it, and don't feel like I've given up any functionality/screen info etc coming from 11 Pro.

You shouldn't if your eyesight is good enough, since it is essential a 11 Pro display scaled down from 5.8" to 5.4". So it should show the same amount of content, just slightly smaller.

A 1080×2340 pixel screen would suggest a new resolution of 360×780 points, but the iPhone 12 mini actually shows a scaled down iPhone 11 Pro resolution of 375×812 points. This means that the iPhone 12 mini does not introduce a new resolution.

Exactly. Getting used to it did take a couple of days though.

Yup, plus the ability to zoom certain text elements.

This is a very real issue for many that IMO contributes to the smaller sales of devices such as the 12 mini. My wife is currently hemming and hawing over replacing her launch day 8+. While she would like something smaller like a 12 mini (doesn’t seem interested in the SE) the display simply will not accommodate the text size she needs to use. This leads to excess scrolling and pages that are just uncomfortable to view do to the magnification. So, once again she will be driven to a larger display due to being older and the vision requirements specific to her. I’m quite confident through interactions with friends and family she is not alone.

So while battery life is a popular point of contention with smaller devices it’s by no means the primary reason for many to go with a larger phone, IMO.

I have Text Size enabled in control center to easy change between glasses sizes/no glasses size (Never needed glasses and cannot get used to them :-/). Also have enabled settings->accessibility->Display & Text Size->Larger Text, which allows for even bigger font sizes than available as standard ;-)

I really love my 12 mini, but I had concerns about the size prior to purchase and decided to keep my 11 as well. I’ve now had the mini a little over 3 months. My main concern, battery life, has proven to be a non-issue for me. The size is perfect. I love how it fits securely and imperceptibly into a pocket.

It’s not the best portable device for spending extended time browsing the web, watching videos, or playing games. For me, it’s the best phone/audio player that can also function satisfactorily as a device to quickly access the web or watch a quick video while I’m on the go.

The mini is a more compelling device for someone who also has an iPad or laptop. If the phone is one’s only or main computing device, a larger screen and battery would be preferable.

I’ll likely stick with the mini form factor at my next upgrade, if it’s still around.

If you’re used to a bigger display that will be the main issue to get used to something else. You are correct that a smaller page or screen an display less text, but wether one is willing to deal with that is hugely personal preference.

Ive said it numerous times, will say it again - while on wifi I get around 2-3.5 days with normal use, not power user, have iPad and laptop/work PC for most of the browsing, but around 5+ hours of on screen time seems to be about right. Connected to 4G would probably subtract half day to day, depending on coverage and intensity of phones use.
Could squeeze 4 days off charger if need be, both wifi/4G.
Happy so far!

2-3 days of use while on WiFi? That sounds amazing. Do you switch Bluetooth and cellular off?

I dont use bluetooth and cellular data is still on, but my wifi is obviously faster so Im using that.
Im not a power user, just use it as a phone, not as multimedia consumption device and since most of the time these days is spent indoors, battery life is certainly much better due to stable wifi data connectivity when I use it occasionally. I also tend to use power saver mode given that I dont need everything being synced to cloud instantly.

You mean reading? Isn’t it the same size text as larger phones, you just see less words on the screen at once?

Yup, plus the ability to zoom certain text elements.

Wait, so if the 12 mini doesn’t have its own resolution, that means it doesn’t have the same size text as bigger iphones by default (without magnifying)? Shrunken resolution = shrunken text, right? Is this the only iPhone that shares resolution?

I believe the iPad mini is the only iPad that shares resolution. It uses a scaled down 9.7” iPad resolution for higher pixel density (at least when 9.7” existed). I don’t have a 9.7” iPad to compare my iPad mini to, but the iPad mini definitely has smaller text than my 12.9” iPad by default.

I’m surprised to hear this situation for a phone though. For smaller screens, seems like there shouldn’t be as much wiggle room for text sizes.
