Battery is the main drawback. It’s now 8am with me and after two hour run/walk steaming YouTube, podcasts and Apple Music via 5G I have 60% battery. Not really good enough for my heavy use case although the form factor is immense.

After watching the WWDC keynote though I can’t help feel iOS is moving to a big screen requirement - l lot of the new features will work better with a bigger canvass.
Same thought here - right after I watched Notification Summary, I hesitated for a while to almost order 12 (despite being in the last part of its cycle). I’m kinda scared that iOS would eventually kill iPhone mini, as it happened with me buying SE first gen and after 3 months I changed to 7. only one hope for getting something for mini is the new Safari.

Whether I'm working from home or working from the office, it's rare that I can't do a little top up if I am using my phone more than normal, but on a typical day, I still have around 50% of charge even without top ups.

As for iOS moving to a bigger screen, IO see no evidence of that. Do they want to leave customer behind? I see no large benefit in a larger screen. If I need larger, I have other devices for that that do it better. I want something small that fits pockets and doesn't become a burden to carry around.
Notification Summary, New bigger notifications or (still) big Music on lock screen as I see it.

Many websites appear to need at least a 4.7" screen. Even the mobile version of sites truncate headlines on my 4" SE. When I viewed a couple of my regular sites on the 4.7" SE, the headlines displayed fine.

So yes, definitely things are moving in the direction of a bigger screen.

But I'm hoping Apple contracts with LoveFrom for iOS and removes all the features from the next version of iOS making it thinner and more lightweight than iOS 1.

Since updating to 14.6, i specifically get battery drain on my 12 mini when viewing Macrumours after about 5 mins or so. I think it might be the advert macros or something. I can actually feel the back of the phone slowly warming up. I do not get this issue at all doing the same thing on my Ipad Air 4 which is still on 14.2 though.

Buddy ... I thought I was the only one that had this. I noticed a few days ago, maybe about an hours surfing while at home. I have an iPad Pro but I actually can lie down on the couch using my 12 mini - the iPad just doesn't work as comfortably.

That said @taneff 's post above - shed's great light on those with larger phones that is their ONLY computing device at all. I totally get that.

For me the Mini is the only phone I’ve ever had that never makes me worry about battery life. Of course, like everyone else, I’d like a bigger battery (and more RAM, smaller notch, Telephoto etc. etc. at the lowest price possible…), but with 20W fast charging it’s just not really an issue at all. I know my previous couple of phones also had fast charging capabilities, but I never bought a special charger for them. However, since the 12-series doesn’t come with a charger, I had to get a new one (USB-C), and I chose the original Apple 20W charger, and now I honestly can’t remember ever charging a phone faster, lol.

So, to anyone complaining about battery life, I’d really suggest getting an official 20W Apple charger ASAP! They’re just USD 19 for crying out loud… With my X and XS I kept lugging around those portable charging bricks. Since I got the Mini and the 20W charger I’ve never used them again, which is a big relief.

That being said, making the Mini a bit thicker - with a bigger battery certainly couldn’t hurt! 😃

If a really big screen is going to be a requirement for iPhones in the future, I certainly hope they will make the UI scalable for smaller phones, without losing out on any main features. I mean, come on, how big are these phones going to get before it becomes (even more) ridiculous…? 🙄

I am liking it.

However I would call this phone a "lint magnet" since it accumulates lint especially wearing jeans. I stuck this phone in my pocket (even with the port connection and speakers) facing upwards, and still, came out full of lint a few days after. I don't know what type of material Apple has made the Mini to be, but as I recall, lint was a lesser issue on my iPhone 10s.

As I mentioned in another thread, I started with the 12, but about 1.5 months ago I switched to the 12 mini. I have no issues with battery life and I much prefer the smaller size. I was definitely influenced by the posts of the 5.4" screen being too small. Well, it's not too small for me and my usage has not changed at all. Because I like the size of the mini, I do plan to upgrade again to the 13/12s mini and I really wish Apple would make a mini pro!

Still love my 12 mini - absolutely THE best iPhone I've owned since the 3GS, iPhone 4S, and 5S, despite not coming in matte black like the prodigal son that is the 7.

no battery drain since iOS 14.6 - but I'ev already had my iPhone setup and running since 14.2. Whenever you start your iPhone from scratch and then update - it takes about a week for it to settle'n - AI within the chip is figuring out what apps your launch first, which you spend the most time with how much data you use on which medium (LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi 2.4/5Ghz) and at what time of the day?

Love it. I pulled out my old iPhone 8 the other day because a friend needed a loaner phone, and it felt huge in my hand as it did the entire time I owned it. The Mini a perfect middle ground between that 8 and the old SE I had before it.

I don’t understand your post. If you’re saying you went from 12 to 12 mini influenced by the 5.4” screen being too small yet it doesn’t affect your usage then again saying it’s not for your and saying you’ll get the 12s/13 mini it’s like your back and forth with a decision and to me it’s confusing. If I switch 12 with 12 mini at the beginning it makes much more sense.

I understand it like he wanted to use a smaller screen, so switched to the Mini. But before buying it, he was biased because of all the "screen too small" comments, maybe he bought the normal 12 because of that. But he loves the Mini, doesn't care and wants to switch to 13 Mini then.

Just bought one. Upgrading from the iPhone SE 2. I really dig the squared edges. I think it makes the phone easier to hold and not as slippery (I'm caseless). Also excited about my first OLED screen. Hope I don't get the dreaded burn in.

Sorry, I edited my post to clarify. Basically I read a lot of reviews and posts where people were saying that the 12 mini’s 5.4” was too small and battery life was bad. Because of that I got the 12 instead and didn’t like the size. So about 1.5 months ago I switched to the 12 mini and the 5.4” screen isn’t too small for me and the battery life isn’t bad either. My use on the 12 and 12 mini is exactly the same except the 12 mini is a much more manageable size for me. Since the rumors are saying that the 12s/13 Mini may be the last, I want to buy one to help with the sales numbers so Apple may reconsider making more in the future. Plus it’ll be the second version of the mini so I’m thinking it’ll be more refined. Hopefully this makes more sense!

This is exactly correct.

I’ve had my 12 Mini since the purple one launched. I’m really satisfied with it. It’s a great size. I still don’t find it comfortably useable with one hand, but it’s way easier to use one handed than an iPhone 12. I do have small hands though.

I do get through a day with it just about, so the battery is definitely acceptable for me. Particularly given the smaller footprint. I always knew that was going to be a trade off, but the way some reviewers went on like if was absolutely dreadful was a bit much. I guess others mileage may vary dependant on how they use their phone.

I almost find that iOS suits a smaller device. Having a larger iPhone like a 12 and especially a Max, doesn’t really give you any screen size benefits like the ability to have additional rows on the Home Screen, or more widgets etc.

Really pleased with my 12 Mini. Having been apprehensive about it and wishing I’d gone for the normal 12 upon ordering I couldn’t be happier!

Exactly how I feel, all the limitations of iOS are magnified on a big device IMO.

I always have a droid and iDevice that I switch between and over recent years I have honestly not wanted to use whatever iPhone I’ve had and massively favoured the droid I had, the mini has flipped this totally for me.
