Would I buy it today, knowing what kind of beast it is? Probably, because summer season is upon us and small phone in shorts pockets is real tech blessing, hated my Galaxy S8 sticking out or being on the brink of falling out constantly, let alone trying to sit or squat with it in pockets, felt like it might slide right into my nuts and crush them lol.

I am about to sell my Pro Max and switch to the mini for this very reason, even a phone manageable in the hand can be a burden in the Summer and I decided to get the pro max out of here before the Autumn sell on rush hits. Have an open box 256gb mini on the way from Amazon, procrastinated but went with white, not had a white iPhone since the 3gs!

Not sure I'll get the max size again, part of me thinks iOS is too restrictive currently on a big screen phone, almost as if the big screen exaggerates the restrictions and design choices (gap between dock and first row of icons  )

Looking forward to getting the mini.

THATS ME! I sold my pro max and got a mini. Fist small version of iPhone ever. Mini feels new to me where as the pro max was the same old. Heck the xs max was a fun phone but it didn’t feel different to me compared to the 8 plus. The mini provides me real world difference in comfort and usage

My 12 mini just came to the rescue of my husband’s 12 pro max. He was trying to get a close up photo of an injury on our cat that our veterinarian had requested. I went to assist with holding the cat still. The 12 Pro max couldn’t focus at all. I’m trying to keep the cat still and he’s snapping all these blurry shots. It still can’t easily do close ups, at least not when you’re trying to work fast and the subject won’t be perfectly still. So I slid my 12 mini over and he got the photo on the second try. Lol I got my arm covered in scratches.

I can get closeups with my 12 Pro max but it takes a bit of finesse that an upset cat won’t allow.

Apple really needs to sort out that issue with their Lidar especially if they plan on putting it on all of their phones.

Ok a few days in and my only negative is that this thing gets very hot very quickly especially if you wireless charge.

It just disconnected me from a TEAMS call with the warning message after just over half an hour.

Yes, Teams brings my MBP to its knees.

Since both Teams video calls and wireless charging generate heat, if you can, you would be better with direct cable charging during a call.

Guess I have been spoilt using my 12 pro max or S21U but it sure feel like wireless charging and any proper use at the same time is a no-no.

I haven't run into problems with most use, but a Teams video call is probably pushing it. I regularly listen to podcasts while on wireless charger and no problems. browsing the web is fine as long as you are using the MagSafe charger since regular wireless chargers have a hard time staying connected.

I'm enjoying the convenience of having a smaller phone which is easy to carry and place in my car's cup holder. Other than that, I'm not seeing much difference between it and my 8. However, I'm not a power user and have few apps on the phone.

The new iPhone mini battery is rumored to be 2406 mAh versus the current size of 2,227 mAh. If true, that isn't much of an increase; maybe an hour - 1.5 hrs depending on use.
True, and *maybe* just slightly more from the new chip, but I’m not expecting much. The rumored LIDAR and this being the last of the minis for a while is making me consider upgrading year over year for the first time, I tend to keep my phones for 5-6 years.

My partner ended up leaving his 12 mini for a Galaxy S21+.

Part of it was the battery life, part of it was his overall boredom and frustration with iOS.

I am definitely upgrading to the new mini. And if the rumor ends up being true, I will buy several more later on. Maybe Apple will have a great sale on them like they did when clearing out the OG SE. :D

Granted the rumored battery increase isn't much but, I will take it. I have been very happy with the mini thus far.

I’ve had literally not a single complaint, hands down the best iPhone experience I’ve ever had, at a size that is what a phone is *supposed* to be 😉

if they can somehow stuff a 3000 mah battery omg! That’s be awesome. That alone would be my killer feature.
The probably could fit close to that amount in the beautiful 12/13 mini chassis, but Apple never will. They would much rather you brought the next model up

Yah definitely not something to upgrade to. lame 😒 I’m skipping it anyway I just wished they’d push battery size in the smaller phones.

More important question, what will the mini fans do if apple discontinue the mini. 🤔

Replace it with a iPhone SE once software support is finished?

wel I think many of us 12 mini and future 13 mini owners alike have already pontificated this.

firstly we’ll keep our devices and use them fully until they die. I personally always get AppleCare+ because since my iPhone 7 being damaged after buying it initially used got dropped and the screen was done done. I learned my lesson.

secondly the iPhone SE isn’t going to stay the same as it is now. Eventually Apple will migrate everyone over to FaceID. Then again the SE may have its power button like the Sony Xperia line has done since the 5 and iPad Air 4.

the iPhone 12 mini, unless I’m mistaken, seems to outsell the SE, no? If kit probably close.

in 4-5yrs after the 13 mini in 2021 Apple will revisit. After all it’s been the same timeline that the iPad Mini 5 debut and thus its rumoured to come out this year.

I think Apple knows or realizes not all it’s iPhone users want/need a large screen phone and right now they are THEY only manufacturer that offers a screen size under 6” which outside of iOS users could be a big market. The issue is Apple is NOT advertising which is a real shame and pure idiocy of loose sales revenues to be honest.

personally this is THE first year I’ll probably spend $5K+ on Apple products more than I ever have and my son will get the 12/13 Pro 256GB while I get the 13 mini, keeping my 12 mini as a primary phone especially when travelling in 2022

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they will come up with in a few years. I also do believe something similar to the Mini will come back in some form, maybe not flagship device though.

This year is the first I haven't gotten AC+, in several years. The Mini is so small and most of the time I even use an ultra slim case with it. I don't feel I could let it fall easily. So now after your post I am thinking of what to do with the 13 Mini. I would need a monthly plan to have AC+ for many years which will get expensive. Around 10$ each month here. Or just get a battery replacement after 2 years. But what if it breaks... Hm... Off course you will get a Mini for certain even two years later brand-new. Apple will sell it till September 2022. Maybe even after that as they do now with the normal 11. I think this would be highly possible if the 13 Mini sells quite well. And even if they don't, resellers will normally sell such a phone at least one more year, sellout. So available till approx mid 2023 at least. Normally I wouldn't need AC anymore, only for Max phones because it is easier to drop them. Difficult.

Only thing I know, a Mini will be my daily driver for many years to come. If a new iPhone gets me very interested because of whatever I will buy it as a second phone, but the Mini is just perfect besides battery life.
