How is your iPad 3 running on iOS 8?

I'm waiting for my iPad3, iPad4 and both iPhone5 units we have in the house until at least iOS8.x comes out...:p

Had it running on my iPhone 5 20 minutes after it was released. Smooth as butter. And some of the new features are awesome. Especially love the new notification centre widgets. My favourite thing is actually being able to summon Siri (when plugged in) with "hey Siri". Fantastically useful in the car.
I'd update your iPhone 5 and iPad 4 (same CPU) with iOS 8 right away, no worries there. Just don't upgrade to iCloud Drive, or you'll lose access on the iOS 7 devices.
From this thread, since I had no issues with iOS 7, I'm getting the sense that upgrading might be okay. Or I might wait for 8.1, like I did previously, waiting for 7.1 (which was a very good move). Not sure...

Awesome. That way you always run software optimized for performance, with few bugs, and more hassle free. And you let developers optimize their apps for iOS 8.

I'm using iOS 8 on my iPad 2 and it feels like a new machine, noticeably faster and more spry. I'm very happy I upgraded.

Faster compared to what? You're saying that your iPad 2 is faster now than with iOS 4 or 5??

Updated my iPad 3 using direct connect to iTunes and it became unstable, crashing repeatedly. Then erased all contents and settings and set up as a new iPad. Reinstalled the apps and now IOS 8 is working fine with no crashes and very little lag. Took some time to set up but I am pleased with the outcome.

Not bad, same iOS 7 performances.
iPad 3 doesn't support continuity, so is not a very useful update. I put iOS 8 on it only to have the new api so some more app compatibility.

I'm planning on getting an Air next month when the new model is out.

I'm just like you, I'm planning on updating to the new Air, hopefully an announcement comes out soon:apple:

Not that bad...

After updating, I felt my iPad 3 was really slow, especially Safari when loading pages. Then I felt it was a bit better.

I was not sure whether I should downgrade to 7.1.2. I compared it side by side with my dad's iPad 3, still on 7.1.2. Guess what? There is no big difference when launching apps or when loading web pages. In some cases, iOS 8 was even faster, and in some cases, a bit slower.

I think that part of the problem is that when we upgrade an old device, we start actively looking for a drop in performance, so we magnify every little problem we find.

I am staying on iOS 8. I also like to be able to answer a phone call without reaching for my phone. :)

Couldn't vote since there was no option for "runs fine, feels the same as iOS7."

Can't tell a difference- if anything, it seems modestly smoother.

This is my experience, too. I was sceptical about upgrading for the obvious reasons, but it basically feels the same. Safari is a tiny bit better than before, it's been getting quite sluggish over the past six months.

iOS 8 works great on my iPad 3, much better than iOS 7 did when it got released.

Little hang-ups & lag here & there. But nothing that would compare to someone using a 3GS with iOS 6.xx

Crap

Crap... IOS 6 ran sooo smooth and responsive. Degraded after IOS7 upgrade; jerky screen, slow WFI, web pages would not load; all this after a complete wipe and reload. IOS8 just added more to the misery. Apple is the new Microsoft....

I downloaded ios8 on my ipad 3 and everything was perfect, loved it. I left it overnight and when I tried to use it next morning, it would not work... The battery had been depleted all the way from 80% overnight... I wonder why? first time something like this had happened in almost 3 yrs.

That's odd!
Can you charge it back up, and use iOS 8's new battery usage monitor to check if it was an app that caused it?
Perhaps one of your apps had a conflict with the new OS that caused it to drain the battery.

It's much better for me than iOS 6 and about the same as ios 7, apart from the keyboard I don't notice much has changed tho. I just did ota too, no fresh install

It's good to ok...

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on my iPad 3 after having great results with iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s. Pleasantly surprised. All has been going very well. (OTA update) much better than the ios 7 rollout. My iPad is still very usable and I really like a few of the new features.

I posted many times on how bad it is, but after a few days it has gotten better, but still not good.

Apps can take seconds before the open animation even occurs and Safari is nearly unusable. Lags in loading, lags in changing tabs, lags in rotating, lags in scrolling, lags opening the sidebar, lags in closing the sidebar, and God forbid I try to delete something from reading lists... "Bookmarks are currently being synced" for the past 30 minutes.

I can't believe it, but iOS 8 on my iPad 3 is way faster than iOS 7 was.

How!? Please tell me really how good it is? I miss my iPad 3, but it's terrible. Maybe I have a bad install. Safari doesn't lag...and lag...and lag...and lag for you?

To those who have been running iOS 8 on an iPad 3… How does it run?

I'm glad you asked that question. LIKE CRAP!

A noticeable delay after almost every single key press,
getting onto wifi 20-30 seconds,
pulling up simple websites (like this one): 10-20 seconds
opening apps like 1Password: 15 seconds

I will be buying a new iPad as soon as thee iPad Air 2 is released.

No, Safari does not lag any more than it did on IOS 7.1. It has been a couple of days now and my iPad 3 is still running great on IOS 8.0 ! I am seriously more impressed with 8 than I ever was with 7 !

Please understand; I was hesitant to do this update after living with IOS 7 on my iPad 3, but I figured I would try it out and if it was a fail it would be time for me to pull the trigger for an upgrade, but it has been smooth sailing on IOS 8 for a few days now... (Waiting for the next iPad release to see what I want to do)

Also note that I only use my iPad 3 for internet, mail, and not much else. Any heavy lifting and I go to my Macbook Air...

I've been running for a few days now and honestly don't see any difference in speed between iOS7 and iOS8. Mixture of Safari web browsing, a few games and the updated Keynote and Pages. Upgrade went smoothly (tethered to iMac). Sorry but I don't know why you are having the issues you see - I didn't do anything special or unusual.
