How is your iPad 3 running on iOS 8?

One little thing... No nag badge on the settings icon. So presumably my iPad hasn't downloaded the new iOS. I don't know if this is a change of policy at apple following all the negative chatter last update when owners were complaining about being forced to take it... And lose valuable storage space in the process. Or a glitch on my own.

Just thought I should mention this.

Cheers.

iOS 7 included the ability to delete the OS installer package. Once it auto downloads and you choose to not install and delete the installer - it won't nag you anymore. Mercifully someone at Apple decided to change the draconian storage takeovers seen in iOS 6 and below.

Someone has tested iOS8.1 beta on iPad3 ?
Does it fix some lags (safari, close apps ...) ?
Is it smoother ?

i've read conflicting things from people suggesting they've been able to take calls/ texts on the iPad 3, whereas apple's iOS page seems to indicate its unsupported.

that is pretty much the only thing that would entice me towards iOS 8, so if people can definitively confirm its unavailable, i'll save myself the hassle of upgrading!

thanks!

Yes, when my iPhone rings, so does my iPad3 now. It's actually a little weird, and I haven't actually answered a call on the IPad yet.

My only issue with the new OS is keyboard lag- really not good, I can sometimes type three or more words before the screen catches up. Battery life seems unaffected.

I do find myself using the iPad a lot less now that I have a 6 Plus.

Aww nuts. Now my decision is tough again! I do definitely dread the keyboard lag though. I don't understand why text entry seems to be the biggest issue on older hardware. It seems like the simplest thing! Does it have something to do with predictive text / autocorrect? Would turning those things off help? Or, to wear my conspiracy hat, does apple "allow" typing experience to degrade fastest KNOWING it's what drives upgrades?

I can't even use Safari anymore. I don't dare type more than two sentences In this post, lest Safari crash and I have to re type the whole post from scratch.

You are very welcome. It is simple to figure out these issues, really, once you break down the problem into its components and think about it step-by-step.

Unfortunately, the seeming fix lasted briefly and then reverted to the new normal, which is tabs needing to be manually reloaded constantly. IOS 8.1 changed nothing in this regard. Nor did it fix the inconsistent multitasking gestures operation- sometimes five fingers to close works and others I have to use the home button to get out of an app. I don't understand how a newer device would not experience these problems? Does a more powerful device just power through this crap operating system? Or has Apple deliberately written code to make the 3rd gens run like *****?

To those who have been running the iOS 8 GM on an iPad 3 (hopefully someone has!)
How does it run?
I know that many had big issues with iOS 7 on the iPad 3. I was one who did not. It's obviously getting old and a little slower, but mine ran fine on iOS 7. I'm hoping that the same will be the case with iOS 8, as I'd love to get some of the continuity features working, but don't want to risk basically bricking the iPad (like apparently is the case with iOS 8 and the iPhone 4S).

Thanks for sharing!

I upgraded my iPad 3 to ios8 and wish that I didnt. The whole experience is sluggish etc, you know when you want to throw it out the window. So went ahead and upgraded to 8.1 as nothing to lose ? Well it's better, but still lags on the keyboard etc. all in all wish I didn't upgrade, all worked fine on my iPad and with syncing to my iPhone 5. Def will not upgrade my husbands iPhone 4s until I hear better reviews. Think it's a disgrace that users are expected to buy new hardware every 2 years to have well functioning goods. If this is the case will most certainly look at Android in the future.
