It really annoys me that there is no post delete button for well-known members on here to delete their own erroneous posts, even one that expires at 5 minutes. Something that fundamental should not be kept hidden or behind a paywall.

Editing a post to "Deleted" and wasting the moderators' time with delete requests is far from optimal.

It's subject to abuse is the main reason to we don't allow it.

Someone posts a controversial topic, then deletes their post and wipes an entire thread of responses with it.

I completely understand, which is why I didn't say a delete button without restrictions. A post count limit to prevent trolling from new members, and not being able to delete a thread with one or more replies seem like reasonable restrictions to me. A 5-minute expiry would also help prevent abuse, albeit at the expense of usefulness.

Delete is not a frequent part of any Apple environment.....I wish the new OS would permit a right click to DELETE ANYTHING...but per Steve Jobs request....this will never be offered.

What does this have to do with the forums?

Just report a post if you want it deleted. We really don't mind receiving them.
The only clarification I will like to add, is that if the post is useful and part of the fabric of a discussion. We generally don't remove posts that would disrupt a discussion.

That makes me feel a little better. I always blush like a baboon's bum when I've replied to the wrong thing and have to report my own post for deletion.

I imagined the mods used to grit their teeth, roll their eyes to the sky and grimace: "not this numpty again ..."
