Something smells .......
6+ 64GB on AT&T.
Since 8.2, basic usage has not changed (work phone), by mid afternoon I am about 10%-15% lower than 8.1.3. It still lasts me good enough for the day. The issue? Since installing 8.2, I can see some small bug fixes but most are still there; email, Safari, reloads, apps failing after lunch, apps suddenly shutting down .... BUT in D&U, I have not had a single new entry since 3/10.

btw - I am seeing the same basic behavior on my Mini 2 (app store crash on 3/14 is the single entry).

Makes me wonder if Apple is fixing or fixing and masking.... :(

How is the 6+ battery life on 8.2 ?

Yeah, still in the privacy settings. Do you find any noticeable battery life improvement with it switched off?

First day I turned it off, I squeezed almost 8 hours of use out of my phone where I can usually only get 6.5-7.

And today I just plugged in at 52%. Had 4.5 hours of use and 13 hrs of standby. Not bad at all!

The one thing I changed that I never thought about before was turning off motion tracking. That seems to have helped a lot.

Where did you turn this off?

When I go to Settings > Motion & Fitness, and turn off all toggles, it still tracks the stats.

It just doesnt post them to the dashboards. Give it a try. Here is what I did:

1) Turned them all off
2) Road mountain bike 10 miles.
3) Turned them back on.

Looked at dashboard and I had 2,000 steps added and went from 2 floors climbed to 11 floors climbed instantly.

So on my phone at least, the toggles are really not turning anything off.

Privacy/motion & fitness/fitness tracking.

As far as I'm aware, the gyroscopes are working 24/7 whatever so I'm unsure as to whether this actually switches anything 'off' as such.

I would love for someone to test this.

1) Note the amount of steps on the dashboard.
2) Go in tho the settings and turn it off.
3) Take a ton of steps, stairs, whatever.
4) Look in Health App and see that dashboards did not update.
5) Turn the settings back on and see if all your dashboards populate with all the date recorded while health and fitness was turned off.

As far as I am concerned, this is a HUGE bug.

I've noticed a decrease in battery life since upgrading to 8.2 and I suspect it is related to excessive use of the GPS/gyroscope.

The location services icon in the upper right of the status bar always seems to be illuminated and I rarely noticed it present when running 8.1.3. Perhaps Apple is now using the chip more often or there is a bug in 8.2 when accessing the chip. FWIW - I have a purple icon next to the "motion calibration & distance" option in the system services which indicates that it has recently been used.
This never turns off - even when the phone is stationary on a table.

I know I could probably turn the location services features off but I like them :).

In any case, would be interesting to see if those having battery life issues since upgrading to 8.2 also have location based services settings enabled.

Most of the system services don't do anything useful really and nothing you can't live without, not quite sure what's to like really. Most people here with battery issues aren't reporting location services being in use constantly or all the time.

For most things it is good but have recently run into an issue.....
If I open YouTube, Vimeo, or YouTube Kids, start watching a video, close the app but leave it in the task list, my Mini 2 (on 8.2) starts chowing through battery like army ants and a fresh kill. The strange part is that the battery consumption does not show up under these apps but appears to be under Safari.
Running some tests on my 6+ to see if it the same.

After a restore via itunes, my battery has become better. But its still not as good as it was previously.

I hope 8.3 will be better

These threads need to stop, especially 1 day after release.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, but for folks who have problems, these threads are important.

I did the over-the-air 8.2 upgrade and noticed a decrease in battery life. With casual use I was getting about a day and a half where I had been getting two and a half. I could also tell the battery was falling off faster by watching the percentage. Settings>General>Usage>Battery Usage showed Usage and Standby times to be exactly the same. I had a problem in the past with iCloud (which made it to second level Apple Support before THEY resolved it) which drained the battery in 14-16 hours, so I thought maybe that was back, but turning off iCloud had no effect. This weekend I restored the phone to stock using iTunes, then reloaded the apps, tunes, etc., instead of restoring the phone to the most recent backup. That fixed the problem. So what I am posting only applies if Usage and Standby show the same times. Hope you get it resolved.

The point there is that no real meaningful battery usage information really exists within a day or so of installing an update.

I've done extensive testing of iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 6 Plus.

Having had it installed for a full 2.895 minutes, my projections indicate battery life is increased a very significant 1.002%

That's an amazing accomplishment on Apple's part!

WoooHooo :)

I have a friend who is doing that kind of measurements whenever a new iOS version comes out! I do not have the iPhone 6+ but he does. He told me smthing similar to your finding (I do not really remember the numbers to be honest). He got a slightly better better life and in fact he almost said the same you did. That for Apple this is a big accomplishment.

So, from my friend's experience, I can agree that iOS 8.2 on iPhone 6+ had a better impact!

Oh? I installed 8.X.Y one evening, rebooted (just to be sure), charged overnight, took the phone off the charger about 6 AM, used it little, and by 7 PM it was dead. Thus, I had meaningful battery usage information within a day or so of installing that update. How soon you have meaningful information probably depends on the severity of the problem.

One anecdotal discrepancy especially the day after upgrade doesn't mean much as to how it actually performs. Takes at least a few charges and a number of days of use to figure that out as far as how the version is working, and certainly as far as drawing any generalized or meaningful conclusions useful to others. So you might have a problem, but from just one day of seeing it and that's it, that's not an indicator in itself, nor one that would be useful to others as it could be something unique to your situation, which would be hard to get from just one instance of observing the potential issue and without any troubleshooting.

Oh please, using an intelligent common sense approach like yours is contrary to much of what goes on in an Apple forum. Along that line of thinking I realize the sarcasm within my earlier post was easy to miss... :)

Meh, these threads are useless and happen every time. Just wait for 8.3 and it's the same all over again and they are especially useless when posted 1-2 hours after release.
Search for iPhone battery life and there are 39 pages with about 15 threads on each, it's a joke. Battery issues affect the minority, yet we get multiple threads everytime time, without fail. It makes people believe it applies to everybody which is the macRumors way these days
