You call me overly biassed but in reality all I said was "for my light usage the XT performs nearly the same as an SSD."

Now I know you don't believe me and never will but the reviews and videos are there for the people to judge objectively.

And on many accounts I've also said that for heavier and different usage scenarios SSDs are faster. Of course. But that's not what I do with my laptop.

All your videos show is the drive has everything loaded into cache/ssd as the common apps you open and it took you around 5 times to do that for it to learn. While it will always open fast for any app on a SSD without having to train it.

The problem here is, you post in almost every SSD topic about your XT. Everyone is tired of hearing it.

Right because that resembles my usage scenario.

So you get tired of it. Ok. I understand.

It won't stop me from voicing my opinion though....

Your opinion is fine, but don't say it's fact like you seem to always do.

1. Choppy video playback - had no problem with stock apple drive and WD black. It got so frustrating to the point that i put the WD back in. Smooth video play.
2. Battery life - SD25 - lost 45-60 min of battery time. Constantly spinning - doesn't sleep.
3. Look on seagate forum about XT - ridiculous # of posts regarding problems with the drive.

Sent the drive back. Used WD for a while until recent upgrade to SSD/WD as Optibay. Happy.

Remember that what he did was right. Yes, you'll get instant ridiculous amount of increase in speed boost by installing SSDs, but some of us just don't have, and certainly don't WANT to, spend something like $200 on the SSD and $90 on the Optibay, where you could have easily buy the Hybrid HDD/SSD. Your point is right, but some of us have our own the taste and choice.
I've never read about Philflow writing about how great the Momentus XT is on almost every SSD thread (trust me, I've seen plenty since 2009) but some people, like me, never heard that Hybrid drives actually existed. It might be painful for people like you to read it every time about Momentus XT when you are trying to help people choose the right SSD, but it's sometimes beneficial to other people who never experienced such a thing. Always good to keep an eye on development of future Hybrid drives :)
BTW, I'm not arguing or taking sides. We may disagree with what others say, but we should always give them the rights to say it.

Noiseless, super fast.

I practically have instant wake with the Momentus XT. Also, takes 30-40 seconds for a cold boot.
Write speeds are very good, but the read is where this drive excels at.
Also, don't really care about SATA-III because well, it's a disk drive.

Firmware SD25 is a must!!

I just installed my Momentus XT about 15min. ago, how long will it take to learn what I use the most and be optimized for my usage? I see that my drive isn't smart enabled, is that a problem?

If your usage would is boot and launch 5 apps, it usually takes three runs to have everything cached. Ball park figure.

I'm getting mine from the UPS man hopefully sooner today than later, but it's on the truck! I hope I have some of the good luck with them rather than the lemons, but as long as it works. I keep good TM backups and with a 5 year warranty, I don't care if it dies in a year.

And, just my 2 cents, I learned about this drive from a thread on here talking about SSDs. I'm glad it was discussed because I had no idea they existed. Much better option for my usage. :)

I just bought this. It came with SD26. From the looks of it, the newer ones come with SD26 and people aren't allowed to download it online yet.

SD26 is the buggy firmware, if I'm not mistaken. You should downgrade to SD25.

Been running a new XT with SD26 on it... working perfectly, 3 weeks and counting... not idle time either, I use it for work 10+ hrs per day.

FWIW, my System Profiler shows the drive as S.M.A.R.T. "verified". (Early 2010 MBP, 2.66GHz Core2Duo, 8GB RAM)

I just checked disk utility, mine is now verified.

Same, I've been keeping it constantly on all day, although for only about 3-4 days now, but no problems! I can tell it's starting to learn my usage habits too!

I've been using mine since December 2010 and have had no problems.

Same here since January 2011...no problems. Upgraded firmware from SD23 to SD25 last week and the drive sleeps and wakes MUCH quicker than before the firmware update and programs even seem to open and close faster....thus far, couldn't be happier...
S.M.A.R.T. Verified as well

How do I check what firmware I'm running?

And here is something I've been experiencing with every boot-up, when I press the power button, I have to wait 20 seconds before the apple logo shows up on the white screen, is this the normal course of action for boot-up?

System Preferences -> Startup Disk -> Select your hard-drive in the list
