I would have kept my first-generation iPhone until the end of the contract (May 2009) before upgrading, but I felt the iPhone 3G was a an important enough upgrade - especially as I would be getting the phone free (O2 upgrade £45 :)).

Both my first-generation iPhone and iPhone 3G are 8GB's as there isn't currently an iPhone that can hold my entire library, and 8GB is enough to fit all my favourites with room to spare.

I wont be upgrading now until Apple announces a 32GB iPhone which'll fit my library. As soon as they do, I'm first in line. :)

Keeping my 1st Gen iPhone until the next round!

I need about 32 GB and I'll be set for a few years (at least I hope so)! :p

If the specs on the 3rd generation iPhone aren't too different than the 3G I doubt I'll be upgrading to the next one.

Rummor has it that the next iPhone will be a complete hardware overhaul with redesigned mobo and more efficient integration of technologies instead of keeping exactly with the old design and accessorizing it as was done with the 2nd gen by adding GPS and 3G to the same hardware.

Probably 29 days. The battery life SUCKS bigtime. Off the charger at 10AM fully charged and by 3:15PM barely any battery left (assuming the "meter" is correct). No phone calls made. Sure, I may have used it a bit more then normal showing it off at work (Wi-Fi on, BT off) but still 5 1/2 hrs ... c'mon. Even if I got TWICE that it's unacceptable.

I have the original iphone and i plan to keep it until the next version comes out, or until my plan allows me to get a new phone.

I'm a collector, and the 4 Gig's a collector's item, so,

forever....

As far as "using it", I'll retire it when the battery starts going bad, and use the 8 Gig my friend is selling me when he gets his 3G one this weekend.

It's impossible to say. It really just depends on if the new model has features that I deem worth spending all that money on.

Bought the 1st gen in June last year and I will probably upgrade to next years model, if I'm not in PA school at the time. There is no reason for me to upgrade now.

16G Iphones.

I don't blame you, my first iphone was 8G and now 16G is out so unless you really need it wait on upgrade. I was in the Caribbean for the summer at this adult sex vacations resort at charlisangels, and i notice most of the escorts had iphones.

Picked up mine in September and it proved invaluable, as it still is. All I need is:

1. Phone
2. iPod
3. Camera
4. Multi-lingual dictionaries (weDict) app
5. Flashcards app
6. 汉字 Character recognition app.
7. Unlocked on a contract 35% that of o2 with a 30-day notice to cancel.
8. Wifi
9. Movies
10.Email

It does all this and much more. I'm not sure I'd upgrade to 2.0 anyway given my app needs. Plus they cost nothing.

I think I'll be waiting at least a year or two.

I can't seem to keep things longer than about 2 years before I want the new technology so I'm guessing it will be about 2years from now.

Cheers.
:)

I can upgrade at any point, if they do decide to bring another one out, I'm not on a contract, I'm buying mine in bulk to sell.

No 24month contract for me =]

Now if they would slap a bigger replaceable battery on it. Other than that it is the best phone that I have had to date. Not real happy with AT&T reception but it is workable.

I bought in June of last year, and have no plans of upgrading until either (a) a 32 gig iPhone 3g or (b) a revision 3 iPhone.

Probably go with option A sometime around January, would be my guess.

Not much more I need from a phone.I only had the 1st gen iPhone for 3 months before upgrading to the 3g.I won't be upgrading for a while.I'm very happy with this upgrade.

I'll probably by the new one again on the first day it comes out just like i have with the last 2. I dont plan on ever selling them tho there just too cool of toys to just ebay away at the moment I'm using both my 1st gen iPhone and my 3g.
As soon as i got the new 3G I Put my iPhone on tmobile so now i use two iphones everyday :D

Until it's broken beyond repair. No need in being too immersed in material possessions.

If not for the cut in price, I wouldn't have a shot in hell of getting the 3G

I am currently saving up for it now to get in 2 weeks

I will probably be getting the 3rd generation one if it is put out sometime after August of 09
