I’ve had my 5 for 2-1/2 years now, and it is still working very, very well. I can’t see trading up to a newer Apple Watch for quite a while - this one is still like “new” to me. How long do y’all keep your watches?
Well my first was the Series 4 when it came out then I bought a Series 6. I guess technically that means two years but there’s a slight caveat to that. I still have my series 4 and when I’m doing something that could damage my watch like working outside or sandblasting I wear it. Other than the always on display which is a big deal for me they’re about the same. Maybe I’ll get a series 8 if it’s not too ugly

I only changed mine twice, from an S2 to an S5 and from an S5 to an S7. I definitely want to keep my Watches for at least two years, but other than that, I upgrade when I see new features worth the upgrade (always on display on S5, and fast charging on S7). If not, I can see myself keeping the same watch for 3-5 years.

I’ve had every series, although sometimes that is because I’m passing one down to one of my adult children or something.

If there are any really great updates with the 8, I’m sure I’ll get it, but if not, I’ll stick with my 7 for at least another year.

Got my Series 7 on Saturday, so this one is definitely gonna be a keeper for me. It's also my first ever smartwatch. Not sure if I will go up to the Series 8 when it's out.

Normally i upgraden when there is a good deal. I just went back to Apple from Samsung Fold 3 and a Galaxy Watch. This Galaxy Watch ist total garbage. It regularly overheats when using the LTE Modem after a 1 minute call. I switched because i got a good deal on a AW 7 LTE for 370€ and an Iphone 13 Pro Max for 900€. Before the Samsung i had the AW 5 and 6. But the Upgrade from 5 to 6 wasnt that big of a deal. My wife is still using her Series 4, she just upgraded only her iphone to a 13 mini.

Yeah seems overheating is an issue on the Samsung series. My last two phones were from Motorola's Z series. The Z Play and the Z2 Play. I have had battery swelling issues on both, as well as overheating for like no reason.

I am currently on my second Apple Watch. First one was the S2 Nike, which I got shortly after it was released, probably like October 2016 or so. My current AW is the S6 which I got in Fall 2020.

I currently only use the S2 when I charge my S6. About an hour in the morning (between my alarm and my 45 to 60 minute snooze). And then in the evening when I shower (about an hour or so).

I wear my S6 all day, except for those 2 hours when it's charging.

Battery life on the S2 is awful, but it's fine for how I use it.

Battery life on the S6 is pretty good, never really dropping below 50%.

I plan on keeping the S6 for at least 4 years, to match how long I got on the S2. I think it could go even longer if I wanted to wait for the S11 or S12.

I agree with you on the S2's battery life. My dad gave me his to play with before I got this S7. The charging time on the S2 was beyond ridiculous. Took all day, and even at bed time, it still didn't get to 100%. Oof! No offense, just sharing my experience with you.

So yeah, the S6 is a good deal. I hope you like it :). I wanted it too, but since I saw it was the same price as the S7, I just went with the latter.

Went from a First Generation to a Series 6 when the battery started swelling. I’ll probably upgrade again when the battery life on this one get too short to last the whole day.
Your watch swelled up? lol never heard that happening for watches. Glad you got the Series 6. Series 7 is even better, more feats too.

Oh yeah! It was five or six years old, though, so I was expecting it already. The battery life was getting really bad, and then one day I just noticed the screen edge was popping up, so I immediately shut it down and took the battery out later that day so I could keep the watch itself for the memories and nostalgia.

It’s all relative to the increase in functionally for me. Started off with the original, then jumped to the Series 3 for speed and cellular. Then I upgraded to the Series 4 for the larger size and I’ve used it for almost 4 years now. I think I’ll finally upgrade to a Series 8 this fall though.

I own a stainless steel series 4 and it feels quite nice still. I think I'll update to the 8 as well, but it is capricious and totally not based on need.

My only actual gripe is the battery has never been incredible, and it has certainly gotten less acceptable over time.

Edit:
if 8 is square-edged, im buying a 7.

Seems to be a pattern emerging here. We're on series 4 too - that was the last big jump. No real compelling features in any model since, but do plan to upgrade this fall for a refreshed battery.

I had my series 3 since 2017; just replaced it with a series 7.

I hope it lasts just as long. To be fair, I could have continued using the series 3, but it was very slow and battery life was poor.

So your First Generation is the one that swelled up?

S0 in Spring 2016 to S7 in Fall 2021. I admit though I stopped wearing the S0 in 2019 becasue it was just so slow...

S0 -> S4 -> S7. Basically when there's a bigger screen. If S8 has blood glucose, I'll upgrade for that alone. Always on display has been nicer than I expected. I upgrade shortly after they release; Apple usually has highest trade in for the older models for a month or so after they release a new model. For me, $450 for the new one, less $150 trade in credit, is pretty reasonable.

I couldn't ever imagine owing a non-smart watch. I see the expensive Rolex'es and just think...it's jewelry, while mine is useful.
