I have a Series 3 and will likely upgrade to Series 8 when it comes out. Really hoping it includes glucose monitoring.

How long do these watches last really? 5 years doesn't seem enough lol

Last in what capacity though? My Series 0 from 2015 is still going strong, just needs a new battery. As a watch it’s fine, but it’s unbearably slow...

I kept my Series 0 for far too long, it was absolutely useless by the end. I still wasn't used to the idea of a $1000 watch getting out of date and becoming e-waste. Got a series 4 when that came out - I honestly can't see much difference between mine and the newer ones that have been released so still very happy with my series 4!
If you get the stainless steel with the better glass then they do look better for a lot longer. The aluminium ones with the cheap glass tend to break easily and need to be replaced more regularly.

I have a Series 4 Silver Stainless since the day it was released. Still completely flawless.
No sign of any loss of battery longevity.
I will keep it until it is a PITA. I have not decided if I even want to buy an AW again when it does die.
If I do, I think I'll go aluminum. To me they're not really worth the money.
I can only hope all the bands I have will fit an 8. S

It’s a shame they’ve gone with this yearly upgrade “cycle” for the Watch. Really encourages a ton of waste, and demonstrates just how incredibly marked up the prices are.

They want to market it as a real watch, with real watch straps and faces and stylings. But within 5 years it doesn’t work at all like it used to and they’ve made 5 newer ones to tempt you. Real watches are (wait for it) timeless.

That’s nonsense. Annual upgrades have nothing to do with markup. Price has very little to do with markup either.

Plenty of people have plenty of watches. Apple didn’t kick off watch collecting. People have been collecting their watches since watches have been around.

The only nonsense here is what you said about “price having very little to do with markup”

I have plenty of watches, yes. Plenty of Apple watches even. But the Apple watches are the only ones that aren’t going to work in 5 years and be totally slowed to a crawl by the software.

For a company supposedly so in love with the planet and wanting to reduce “emissions,” perhaps they’d encourage the watches to last longer. The artificial slowdown of my series 3 is laughable. It’s nothing like it used to be. There’s no reason for that other than Apple wanting me to buy a new one.

Edit: and haha, yeah my opinion is hilarious that planned obsolescence is a terrible anti consumer practice. I guess I should be used to that after a decade+ of Apple doing it. But you know, it really seems to burn me more than a phone or computer for some reason.

I got a series 3 I think in like 2018 and in 2020 I got the Series 6 thanks to something through work where they paid me back for it after buying it. The Series 3 went to a family member. I think the Series 6 so far has been great thus far, although the battery health is already down to like 85% which I've heard is unusual for how old it is. Considering just how long the Series 3 was supported and the fact that there is little changes in the chips and expected to be little changes in the upcoming series chips, unless there is a huge advancement in the Apple Watch, with a battery change sometime down the road, I expect to keep this thing at least until 2025-2026.

Started with the S4 Al when I made the switch to Apple that year. Been upgrading along with my iPhone yearly since and will continue to. S5 was SS, S6 Ti, and now S7 Hermes. Hopefully this rumored Apple Watch “Pro” comes to fruition. I’ll see an S8 Pro in my near future. If not, probably sticking with Hermes.

Still on a Series 5 that I got upon release and its still going strong. I'm noticing that the battery life took a hit after updating to Watch OS 8.7, but we'll see how that goes over the next few days.
