The dated design, lack of FaceID tech, lack of gesture controls, LCD screen, etc. The 8/8 Plus are solid devices but they're already forgotten.
So not anything outdated really, just not the most recent newest design, which is still in a sense only on its first revision and will be getting tweaked in the next version or two.

Whatever you want to think but the 8 might as well be the 6 at this point. Should've never been released.

Seems quite funtional with quite fast hardware. The fact that its external design isn't something new doesn't somehow make it bad or outdated. Whether or not someone wants it or likes it is a somewhat different and basically mostly subjective thing that is different for different people.

SE's design was already older when it was released, let alone now, and yet plenty of people were excited about it and got it when it was released and are even getting it to this day.

I just retired my iPhone 5 this past December (or was it January???).

And it wasn’t because it was outdated. My 160 GB iPod Classic had been stolen. And my iPhone 5 didn’t have the storage to hold all my music.

So I purchased an iPhone 7 w/ 256 GB to replace my stolen iPod. It made more financial sense.

If it hadn’t been for that, I’d still be using my iPhone 5.

So... outdated is a relative term. My iPhone 5 had just lost support for iOS updates in the past few months. But it was still quite capable and did everything I wanted it to do as a phone.

Assuming the phone doesn’t die, doesn’t get broken, and your needs don’t change to require features that it doesn’t have, then it’s entirely possible that you could get 7 to 10 years of use from a new phone.

The X is going to be relevant for a very long time. Can't say the same about the 8 series. They were born outdated.

I mentioned before above, even though the iPhone 6 through 8 has an older form factor, I don’t think the consumer really cares about its ‘dated’ looks. They simply just want to use the phone for what it’s worth or they prefer that similar form factor with touch ID.

Considering how well the 6S series is holding up, it stands that the X will be pretty fluid throughout its usable lifespan.

The only one I can really think of is Face ID and considering it has Touch ID for secure authentication instead I don't see that being too big a deal?

Exactly! And Face ID vs Touch ID is a preference thing at present. They both can replace each other.

No. This is getting too desperate and sad. You get what you paid for and the 8 series reflects that perfectly. Be happy with it but dont try to pretend it’s anything but an upgraded 7.

Every future generation is an “upgrade ” from the previous generation. What are you trying to get at?!

Seems like the desperate and sad part of it is to try to go out of the way to somehow put down some devices like the iPhone 8 on the part of some, for some strange reason or no reason, not really so much the other way around, at least not in what has been brought up here.

“Out of my way”. Yeah, I’m such a bully for picking on the iPhone 8. Give me a break.

I have a 64GB iPhone X. 1) I am wondering how long this phone will last until it gets out-dated/seem old. Do NOT take in to consideration about factors, such as how well I take care of the phone. 2) In comparison, how many years do you think it will take for the iPhone 8/8 Plus to get out-dated. 3) And, as of this year, which iPhone do you think got out dated. (I know some people upgrade every year or two, but that doesn't necessarily mean the phone is out-dated).

This all rather subjective. I know people that are totally satisfied with their phone for two or more years. For me, the phone is outdated as soon as the next upgrade comes around. Consequently, I upgrade every year and am happy to do so. :)

An iPhone is outdated when the next model comes out. However while it may be lacking the latest and greatest technology, bells and whistles it’s still in the ‘New Category ‘

The 6 is the worst iPhone ever made. 1gb of ram was a slap in the face on release day.

Although true about the one GB of RAM, the iPhone 6 actually was the _most_ popular phone ever made in terms of sales, being it was a major turning point with a new form factor, also offering two different sizes during that time with its launch in 2014.

To a lot of people away from tech forums an iPhone is an iPhone. You clearly see it at a much more superficial level than many of us here.

With exactly the same chipset as X, the 8 series will stay relevant as long as the X does.
I have to disagree. It’s not all about the power it’s about the looks as well, the 8 was outdated the day it was released. I think alot of the 8 users will upgrade to the new budget iPhone this year. I personally wouldn’t of minded the 8. My issue was I knew it was gonna be outdated. And wouldn’t sell very well used when I go to upgrade. Some are only bringing $300-$350 now. I can only imagine what they will bring when the new budget one is released.
