I have to disagree. It’s not all about the power it’s about the looks as well, the 8 was outdated the day it was released. I think alot of the 8 users will upgrade to the new budget iPhone this year. I personally wouldn’t of minded the 8. My issue was I knew it was gonna be outdated. And wouldn’t sell very well used when I go to upgrade. Some are only bringing $300-$350 now. I can only imagine what they will bring when the new budget one is released.

I agree and disagree. I agree the design was completely outdated when it came out, but the specs weren’t. I guess it’s about what the user cares about. Do they care if their phone looks new, or do they care if the inside specs are new. I say the 8 will last as long as an X, but like you said, it won’t bring value nearly as long. When the new iPhones come out this year, the X will bring a lot more money on the used market than the 8. For most, none of that matters. People want to know they have a good phone that will last them a couple of years at least. I think both these phones can do that.

Outdated is a bit relative to the user. If you need the cutting edge, then when the next iPhone comes out the X will be outdated to you. If we are talking how long will the X and 8 last and a quality daily driver, that is at least 2 years if not more.

Yes, you are correct. To some it’s not a tool but a fashion item. Those that need phones for fashion items might upgrade sooner, but how many people these are in the real world- no idea.
Technically speaking the 8 is close to the X and should work fine for quite a while.

I think it depends what country you are in as iPhone model popularity doesn’t appear to be the same everywhere. In the UK it seems to be the best deals that are attracting upgrade customers rather than the latest and greatest. I know from next month I can upgrade and the sharp increase in iPhone prices has made me change my buying preferences. I no longer buy the latest and greatest at any cost because last years model suits my needs just as well. This year i’ll likely get the iPhone 8 like a lot of people I know due to the hardware advantage going forward. The look of it is irrelevant to me as an iPhone is an iPhone in my eyes.

I would say nowadays the design is more relevant than many other specs. Pick up any new iPhone model and it's fast enough, has a good camera, a good quality display, decent battery life etc. What brings the 6/7/8 down is they have huge bezels for their screen size compared to even the Android phones that were out when the iPhone 6 was released and the home button/fingerprint reader is a bit rubbish compared to similar solutions on the Android side. The design of the iPhone 6 was bad enough that I was completely uninterested in the iPhone until the X arrived. I am now actually considering swapping my Oneplus 3 for the next gen iPhone X 5.8" because of its good physical size.

Design is super important, but only to us tech people. Most consumers could care less. Other members of my family don’t care what it looks like, just as long as it runs properly.

Outside of tech forums you rarely hear anybody talk about bezels being too big on iPhones though. You sound like you’re into your tech so you will naturally scrutinise phones over the finest details, but I don’t think the general consumer cares as much. The iPhone 7 is still selling incredibly well in developed markets despite being nearly two years old by design. You know what you’re getting with an iPhone and I don’t get the impression the vast majority of consumers care if it has a home button or whether it doesn’t.

Price is playing a major part now in my view and the iPhone X is at a price point that makes consumers really analyse whether they want it or not.

Can't say that I've really heard of that (in fact, more along the lines of the opposite, if anything).

The 8 was apparently the best selling iPhone in May and June, so people don't seem think it is outdated.

I don’t think the average consumer cares about the bezels. They simply upgrade to the latest phone at the time that they want and android is not an option for most iPhone users.

I Never considered the iPhone 6 a ‘bad design’, especially being how popular was when it first launched in 2014. Yes, iPhone X is a drastic design change, but the iPhone 6/6S/7/8 refined nicely over the years in terms of added features and capabilities.

Completely agree! I care a ton about what my phone looks like, preforms, how good the pictures are, and how it feels in the hand. I am the only one in my family that does though. In fact I was on vacation last week, and one of my family members said the only reason she liked my phone better than her was because of the camera. She had a 7, so truly all she needed was the 7 plus or 8 plus. Design had nothing to do with. We tech forum poster tend to forget that sometimes.

Yeah usually I’m ready to upgrade by this time. Not this year tho. But I honestly think the new x is gonna be pretty close to the same as the current one. Would be number one reason why Apple is discontinuing the current X, considering people would buy that one for $100-$200 cheaper then the new one.
