Well my most used apps are Facebook, Kik and Skype
I think they've been around for a bit though?

If I upgraded eventually would I be able to transfer everything from this phone to the new one?

Where I live there is almost no point in having iphone repaired outside the warranty period. However, there are loads of nice gadgets, replaceable parts like plate and battery well worth doing your self. All you need is the correct screw driver, a good guide and it is low cost maintanance. Just don`t be too hesitant of DIY.

Best of luck :- )

It all depends on what the developers will require. Just like software apps for the Mac, some developers choose to support very old devices while others choose not to. If your favorite app no longer supports your iPhone in the future then you will be forced to upgrade if you want to use the lastest app version. Of course, you can still use the old app version as long as it still works.

If I upgraded eventually would I be able to transfer everything from this phone to the new one?
Yes. Apple gives you the option to restore a new phone from a backup.

Yes. Apple gives you the option to restore a new phone from a backup. You may encounter problems if you are trying to make a big skip from one iOS version to the next but the option is there. Someone who has skipped several iPhone generations will give you a better answer than me.

I think I understand
so if I want the latest version that's no longer supported with my phone I'd need a new one?
but if it still works I'd be able just to use it on my current phone?
Would messages still send if it worked?

That is in error....

"Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of technical support.1 AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee plus applicable tax.1 Whether you use iPhone with a Mac or a PC, just one phone call can help resolve most issues."

Once the two years is up, no matter if you got the iphone replaced, the original warranty ends. It does not extend for another two years. Call them up to verify.

Um. I meant the phone would be good for another two years+, nothing about the AppleCare coverage.

I got a 3gs from 2009. It has taken a real beating because my little kid sometimes plays with it. It has been dropped a few times ,the plastic from the back has cracked. The lock button is not too responsive but apart from that it still works very well. I don't know about the 4 and 4s but I can vouch for the 3gs to be very durable.

I agree the 3GS seems to be a quite durable handset, mine has only just stopped working and that was completely my fault. They tend to not work too well In the bath! :s

The glass screens on the 4 do seen a bit fragile tho I've seen many mates with cracks in them! I recommend a sock for your phone, mine has had one for ages and is still scratch free pretty much as new! just not water free
