I am using my son's hand-me-down Dell laptop that is about 6 years old, and although I am paying 2 (soon to be 3) college tuitions, I am treating myself to a new MBP hopefully within the next few weeks.

The son who handed down the Dell to me has an MBP that's about a year old; as a former Mac lover, once I saw his MBP I was convinced that MBP is the way to go.

My Dell is on its very last legs. Hopefully it will live on until I get my Mac. :apple:

I've never kept a laptop for more than a year or so; probably less than that. I'd like to see if I can keep my Macbook for 5 years (60 months). I've already got 1/60 in the bag. How about you? What do you have, and for how long will you have it?

I just bought my refurbished iBook G3 from macofalltrades.com three months ago. The machine is already 5 years old and I hope to get 3.5 years out of it before I get a new laptop. It's old, I know, but it does all I need. I just hope it keeps ticking! Plus, it still looks very modern.

Sweet deal, man. I bought a G3 iBook a few months ago from Craigslist that had to have been at least 4 years old. It still worked nicely, and I upgraded it to Tiger before selling it to someone else. They're solid little machines, and for what it's worth, it felt sturdier than the Macbook I replaced it with. Can only hope this lasts as long.

And to the good folks requesting a "till it dies" option...I can't edit the poll now it's up, but you can vote for the more-than-five-years option; that's what I'd have intended the "till it dies/forever" option to be.

Every four years (one year after AppleCare runs out).

I upgrade my desktop machine (Linux or BSD, depending upon mood) about every four years as well (upgrading just the internals (e.g., MB/processor)).

well im in my freshman year of college right now and i bought my macbook over the summer. im hoping to keep my macbook for 3 more years so then in my senior year i can buy a new mac and still get a student discount. :D

I've had my white iBook G3 for almost a year now; though it has been demoted to "secondary desktop" due to it's unreliability on the road.

My laptop I actually use as a laptop is a iBook G3 clamshell. 'Had it for about a month. Hoping to keep it for 3 years when at that time I will upgrade to a BlackBook. And I'll probably use that until I graduate collage, and buy an iMac.
