Took about an hour for me last week. Something happened to the Touch ID when they put it back together and gave me a new phone. Okay. :)

Update: Apple store replaced my iphone with a New 6S Plus 64gb. They actually have these old phones in stock. And this new replacement has the TSMC chip instead of the Samsung chip the old unit had.

Today’s employee said they should have noted the condition of my phone when I handed it to them. But I saw on the iPad write up, the other employee noted no scratches or dents anywhere.

Make sure you take closeup photos of your iPhone before doing the replacement.

I’m planning to have my X battery change but now I’m worried they might messed it up.

No appointment but first in line when the Apple store opened: 45 minutes and everything was done on my 2 years old 7Plus.

Amazing service here in the UAE.

I took my 6S+ in a few weeks ago for $29 battery replacement even though the battery was at 89% capacity. It was in mint condition. With an appointment,it took just under an hour. They broke the camera and gave me a refurb 6S+ with 90 day warranty.Only folks with current model MAY get a new phone. Otherwise,it's a refurb with 90 day warranty.Since traded to TMOB for TenR.

I read the genius bar have a couple or more incidents in which they broke the iphone while changing only the battery. It seems they are not expert yet in replacing the batteries of iphones. The good thing is they will give you a refurbished iphone if they broke your device.

Exact same for me - Touch ID wouldn't work after my battery replacement. "We can send it back to open it up and see what happened, or we can give you a new phone." Didn't have to think too long on that one :)

I enjoy working on electronics and cars, and I have to tell you guys that once you have open up the factory seal, it doesn't matter if it's factory operated repair shop or a car dealership, those seals will never be the same again.

If your battery is working perfectly now even of 90%, I would not want to open my phone up for that "what if" scenario. I've had a laptop battery hover around 80% for the last ten years, and it is perfect to this day. The replacement battery could be even worse.

@alphaod - Are you referring to the water seal or in a general sense?

Water seal for the iPhone.

You can open up an iPhone 6 all you want, it's not going to make much of a difference.

But when it comes to liquid seals, first you cannot guarantee the mating surface is free of contaminants and second you cannot be sure the seals have aligned properly without opening up the phone again.

When it comes to the factory they have dust free environments and precision equipment for this kind of work that's why they can offer a ingress guarantee.

It takes me a good 5-10 minutes of cleaning the mating surfaces and even then I cannot be sure the alignment is perfect. I seriously doubt the Apple Store technicians have that much patience when they have dozens and dozens of phones waiting in queue.

All valid points. You are having me re-think my wife's 7+ and replacing the battery. However, unless I'm mistaken the current seal is just an adhesive, which would degrade over time anyhow. Guess I can use a lifeproof case for her phone.

Depends on the location. In San Jose(Valley Fair) I had to leave my phone there. In London(Westfield) it took less than 2 hours.
